Bad Boys
"Any time you can get Big Willie [Smith] to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like 'Bad Boys,' you have to take notice. I met with Michael Bay and he said he's onboard too—so it's real," Martin Lawrence declared back in 2010. Clearly, it didn't happen, but Lawrence isn't wrong in saying that the project was/is "real." In 2009, Sony hired Peter Craig ("The Town") to pen a script but it seems the studio, still looking to get Will Smith and Lawrence back together, are looking for a fresh approach.

Universal hasn't been having the best year so far. Sure, they had an unexpected hit in the Seth MacFarlane comedy "Ted" and "Snow White and the Huntsmen" probably did just well enough to merit a sequel (writer David Koepp, who specializes in oversized blockbusters, is hard at work as we speak). But they have also been saddled with pricey duds like waterlogged board game adaptation "Battleship," violent drug world freak-out "Savages," and stillborn romantic comedy "The Five-Year Engagement." So it's no surprise they'll want to seize upon one of their few hits and produce a follow-up, which is what they're doing in the case of the Ryan Reynolds/Denzel Washington thriller "Safe House."

While a definitive release date has yet to be locked down, a poster and a collection of stills has debuted for the new Nicolas Cage thriller "Stolen" (formerly "Medallion," which made it sound like a negligible Jackie Chan movie), with the appropriately Nic Cage-y tagline: "12 hours. $10 million. 1 kidnapped daughter." We're not sure about the math, but we're certainly excited about the movie!

Ron Howard's always got more than a few irons in the fire, and he's about to add one more. Universal has acquired "364," a ridiculous-sounding pitch from David Guggenheim, the writer of the upcoming Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds starrer "Safe House." The story concerns a man who spends exactly 364 days of the year trying to plan how he'll spend the one day annually in which he has super powers. So, a seasonal Superman.

Not only are we anticipating the big buys out of Sundance for the independent film world, but there’s also been a lot of buzz surrounding the television production companies and the high-profile pilots being picked up for fall 2011. Anticipated pilots already being made include a remake of “Charlie’s Angels” for ABC, a new Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle for CBS, a grown-up “Harry Potter” show for NBC and J.J. Abrams’ pilot about Alcatraz for FOX. The latest news from FOX also indicates that they’ve greenlit yet another pilot, this time from director and executive producer Antoine Fuqua, starring Ethan Hawke and titled “Exit Strategy.” The two last worked together on “Brooklyn’s Finest,” but Fuqua also directed Hawke to an Oscar nomination for “Training Day” (and Denzel Washington to a win for the same film).
