'Solitary Man' Team Brian Koppelman & David Levien To Rewrite & Direct Neil Strauss' 'The Game'

No book or author/personality has been as sleazy in recent memory as Neil Strauss. His breakout bestseller "The Game" is part memoir and part expose, chronicling Strauss’ own adventures in the guys club world of pick-up artists and his experiences and successes with the techniques he learned from these guys that more or less involves reducing women to a bunch of base stereotypes. Basically, it’s kind of total douchebag stuff that at the same time is repulsively fascinating. So while we're a little bummed that "Solitary Man" team Brian Koppelman and David Levien have made this their next film, we're hopeful they'll be able to find some depth to the material.

You probably forgot, likely because you don't care, but last spring mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that a "National Treasure 3" was in the works and then we didn't really hear anything since. But it appears that work is now underway.

Updated: Well, it looks as per Mr. Caruso's own comments below, that he spoke out of turn. We've spoke to management and agents for the actor and while management confirms that Caruso has met with Appian Way and Leonardo DiCaprio and management has spoken to Fox about the project, no directorial deal or even development deal is in place yet. Let's place this under something that everyone hopes will happen in the future if all parties see eye to eye.

Premiering strongly at TIFF at in 2009 and released into theaters earlier this year, Brian Koppelman and David Levien's sophomore directorial effort, "Solitary Man" has quietly been building steam. The film earned strong reviews from critics and saw its initial two screen opening weekend eventually expanded into over one hundred and fifty theaters across the country. The picture stars Michael Douglas as a former used car sales magnate who slowly watches his life self-destruct due to his ill-conceived and misguided romantic and business indiscretions. It all begins with a routine heart check-up that seems irregular that leads the main character Ben down a brutally selfish path of self-immolation. It's also funny, mature and intelligent look at an irredeemable man trying to find some redemption in his life with few easy answers.
