Nope, the director has instead cranked out another album, this time called The Big Dream, which is far less of a Lynch-ian name than his previous effort, Crazy Clown Time. But as usual, he's got some surprises up his sleeve.

This week George Lucas’ “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” turns 30. The conclusion to what was then imagined to be the end of the "Star Wars" saga concerned the Rebellion going up against the evil Galactic Empire, which has constructed a second, planet-destroying Death Star that is about to go online. It had a whole bunch of thrills, chills, and fussy robots, but, as we look back on ‘Return of the Jedi’ (and look forward to whatever J.J. Abrams’ "Star Wars: Episode 7" will be,) it’s interesting to note what the sequel might have contained under different conditions– and how it could have ended up being much, much cooler (This as the companion piece to that ran earlier today btw.)

10 Movies Booed At Cannes

If the Cannes Film Festival is known for one thing, it's the festival's close proximity to topless beaches. But if it's known for two things, it's the emotional, emphatic responses that usually greet the films. These reactions come from audiences that are unafraid to tell the film (and the filmmakers, who are often sitting in the theater, squirming inside their rented tuxedoes and sequined ball gowns) how much they love or (just as often) hate, these movies. Not that these audiences are always right – far from it. Some of the movies that have been audibly shouted down are the ones (in the same festival) that take home the top prizes or garner widespread critical and commercial approval outside of Cannes. The Brooklyn Academy of Music is currently having a Booed at Cannes mini-festival, celebrating some of the best movies with the worst reputations. We wanted to also look at ten movies that got hissed at in Cannes and what happened afterwards.

A few months ago there were rumors that another season of "Twin Peaks" might be on the table, although they were quickly nixed. Having said that, they did get an awful lot of people excited while there still seemed to be some potential there. You could argue that excitement was purely about the cult show, but for many it would have been motivated by the potential return of David Lynch to the small screen (and at this point, we take his return anywhere).

While there was a period of time when David Lynch was a cinematic workhorse -- "Lost Highway," "The Straight Story" and "Mulholland Drive" were all released between 1997 and 2001, to give you an idea -- but he's since diversified his creative output. 2006 was the last time we saw a feature from the director with "Inland Empire," and since he's taken on a variety of ventures including fashion house helmer, concert webcaster, aspiring artist and "Louis" guest star. While he's been continually asked about his next movie, Lynch has generally deflected by saying he's waiting for the right inspiration to strike. But could he already have something brewing?

In his continuing quest to do everything but make a new feautre film, David Lynch has served up another curiosity that isn't an oddball product he's selling or something about transcendental meditation. Instead, it's a short film about a lithography company, Idem Paris. And keeping things as simple as the black-and-white photography, the short is also entitled, "Idem Paris."

Recap: 'Louie' Closes Off Its Third Season With A Pair Of Classics

In a very fine article on the always excellent AV Club this week, Todd Van Der Werff argues that "Louie" isn't just a strong contender for the best comedy on TV right now, but also the first show since "Seinfeld" and "The Simpsons" to genuinely move the form forward. Whether it becomes a touchstone for comedy writers of the future in the same way as those two endlessly influential series remains to be seen, but the timing of the piece is certainly persuasive. Not just because it follows from Louis C.K. winning two Emmys this past Sunday, but also because it was bookended by the final two episodes of the show's third season, which saw the series at its very best.

With apologies, it's been a little while since we checked in in "Louie" -- we were partly interrupted by festival-related travels and because the show took last week off, presumably because it would have clashed with Barack Obama's speech at the DNC. Or the VMAs. Happily, over the past weeks, Louis C.K.'s been unfurling his most expansive story yet, a three-part tale that last night's episode marked the middle act of, in what seems to be building into something resembling the first "Louie" feature-length movie.
