The relationship between David Simon and HBO has been long and fruitful, but it hasn’t always been easy. Simon’s the man behind TV shows such as “The Wire” and “Treme,” and while your friends still cannot stop talking about how great “The Wire” is, it was never a big hit in the ratings department back in the day. His second show, “Treme,” aired its final episodes last December to little fanfare as well. You would think this would sour his relationship with television for good, but surprisingly, David Simon has yet another gem of an idea up his sleeve and it may prove to be his most challenging yet. Unfortunately, he's having trouble getting it to see the light of day.

Martin Luther King David Simon
How many Martin Luther King projects does Hollywood need all at once? And Oprah Winfrey, she's got two on the move at the same time. Last week it was revealed that she is throwing her producer weight behind Ava DuVernay's "Selma" over at Paramount, and now at HBO, she's got another biopic brewing on the civil rights leader.

Under certain circumstances, selling drugs to earn a living becomes a choice for many. Humans are nothing if not survivors, eking out a living by any means necessary to put food on the table, pay bills, and stay afloat. Beyond teaching viewers the correct way to pronounce sheeeeit, "The Wire" gracefully portrayed the lack of options for many people, proving the drug game isn't everything, it's the only thing. But what if we could actually choose what we want to do with our lives, and the moral quandary wasn't an issue? Just like Sonny told the "The Godfather," "There's a lot of money in that white powder."

It must be an occasionally frustrating prospect for David Simon to ponder: as his superb HBO series “Treme” struggled with viewers (to the point where it's only receiving half a final season), “The Wire” continues to grow in popularity and adoration. It's then understandable that Simon would shun a return to the Baltimore streets, but that hasn't stopped actor Wendell Pierce from lamenting an intriguing prequel idea.

So, Guillermo Del Toro's big secret blockbuster "Pacific Rim" is now shooting in the chameleonic Toronto, but instead of standing in for New York City or Chicago as it usually does, the streets have been completely redone as Tokyo. CBC News has a report which shows off some flashes of sets and behind the scenes action, and yes, they do call it "Still Seas" which we presume is the working title being tossed around town so fanboys don't storm with the city with dodgy cell phone cameras. Watch below.
