Former "Doctor Who" star David Tennant will return to the small screen starring in eight-part drama "Broadchurch" alongside Olivia Colman and Vicky McClure. The story centers on the media circus that descends on a small coastal community after the murder of a young boy. The project is being produced by Kudos Film & Television who are responsible for programs such as "Life On Mars," and "Law And Order: UK." "Broadchurch" will begin shooting in mid-August and later air on BBC Four. [Deadline]

Angela Bassett is the latest to join "Olympus Has Fallen," Millenium Entertainment's rival to Sony's "White House Down." Set to be directed by Antoine Fuqua, the premise is pretty much the same: White House + terrorists/bad guys = hero saves the day. In this case, it's Gerard Butler with Aaron Eckhart along for the ride as POTUS. Basset will play Secret Service director Lynne Jacobs.

Let's fave it, "The Office" hasn't been the same since Steve Carell left the show and frankly, it was already on the decline during his last season. James Spader was kind of wasted as the new David Wallace (of sorts) and Ed Helms' position as the new office manager was constantly undermined by tepid writing and a recycling of plotlines and running themes from previous seasons. So perhaps it's no surprise NBC may want to start over. With contracts up at the end of the season for Helms, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and B.J. Novak and not yet renewed, executive producer Greg Daniels is pitching a reboot of the show that would keep some key cast members, but essentially start fresh. Hmm. Remember how well that worked out for ABC and "Scrubs"?

Few thought that when Beastie Boy Adam Yauch set up distribution label Oscilloscope Laboratories to put out his 2008 directorial debut "Gunning For That #1 Spot," it would turn out to be anything other than a vanity side-project. But in fact, the company has evolved over the past four years to become one of the most forward-thinking indie distributors around, having released films like "Dear Zachary," "Wendy And Lucy," "Treeless Mountain," "The Exploding Girl," "Howl," "The Unloved," "We Need To Talk About Kevin," "Bellflower," "The Messenger," "Exit Through The Gift Shop" and "If A Tree Falls," the latter three all turning out to win Oscar nominations for their trouble.

Yes, Virginia, There Was A 'Nativity 1'Comedy doesn't travel well, historically. It's rare to find a giant comedy that performs as well abroad as it does in the U.S -- instead, each nation will have their own box office draws in the genre, with only the occasional slapstick hit, like the current "Johnny English Reborn," going great guns internationally (but dying in the States), uniting comedy fans worldwide. As such, it's easy to miss these localized box-office phenomena. Like "The Inbetweeners Movie," a big-screen take on the crude British sitcom, currently the third-biggest film of 2011 in the U.K. Like "Le Petit Nicolas," an adaptation of a beloved childhood character that was France's top-grossing home-grown hit of 2009. Or like "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis," and its Italian-language remake "Benvenuti al Sud," which mined millions of Euros out of local cultural stereotypes.

Stephen Mangan and Jim Broadbent Also InvolvedYou might not be familiar with "Postman Pat." The kind of peculiarly eccentric, low-key animation series that could only have come out of Great Britain, it involves the adventures of the titular postal worker, and his black-and-white cat Jess, in the fictional village of Greendale. He delivers letters, he helps out the villagers, and that's about it. But the show has run on-and-off for thirty years, has aired all over the world, and we can assure you it was a key part of this writer's childhood.

Empire Big Screen '11 Review: 'Fright Night' Is Entertaining, But Eminently Disposable

A confession: this writer has never seen the original "Fright Night." It's one of a certain kind of 80s VHS-era film ("The Goonies," 'Weird Science," 'Wargames"), beloved by a certain generation that this writer was a few years too late for, and that we've never caught up on, principally because it feels like there are plenty of better things to do with our time. This is a long-winded way of saying that if you're looking for comparisons between the original and 2011's "Fright Night", if you're looking for someone to tell you if Colin Farrell lives up to Chris Sarandon, this is not the review for you. What we can do is judge Craig Gillespie's remake on its own merits, of which there are a few: "Fright Night" is an enjoyable time at the movies. But we suspect it's the kind of film that, when it airs on TV five years from now, we'll only realize that we've seen before half an hour in.
