Between "Splinter Cell," "Assassin's Creed," "Need For Speed," and now "Deus Ex," it's safe to say that studios are interested (once again) in video game properties in a big, big way. And yet another best-selling title continues to inch foward to the big screen.

After a few years that have seen studios deciding to focus on trying to make movies out of board games, it looks, from the last couple of days, as though video games are cycling back around as the hot source material. Monday saw Michael Fassbender announced as the star and producer of a film based on Ubisoft's hugely popular "Assassin's Creed" franchise, while yesterday a movie based on the long-running "Deus Ex" series was set up at CBS Films, Sony's "God Of War" film got new writers, and Dreamworks' "Need For Speed" got a firm 2014 release date.

Video game adaptations have had a tremendously mixed (and mostly bad) track record on the big screen, but it seems movie studios are eager to crack that nut. Perhaps it's because the line between movies and video games are forever blurring; just today it was announced that "Resident Evil 6" will feature over four hours of cutscenes. Anyway, it seems they are a hot item at the moment, with gaming franchises "Need For Speed," "Splinter Cell" and "Assassin's Creed" (with Michael Fassbender no less) all finding Hollywood homes in recent months. And now, another big title is on the way.
