Happy belated Independence Day, movie fans! Now that the barbeques, firecrackers, and sunburns have subsided, we can’t think of a better way to ring in America’s 236th birthday than with a trip to the theater. This weekend, you can celebrate with an excursion high above the New York skyline, competition in an amateur Olympic event, and a shootout with drug dealers. Or perhaps you prefer a haunted house? And all while Katy Perry’s “Firework” rings out across the twilight’s last gleaming. Happy Fourth (or, you know, Sixth)!

A host of trailers have arrived in the last 24 hours, and it being the start of Cannes, and one of the busier days of the years, we've done a little round up of them for you below. First up, Bradley Cooper is sporting some sweet dreadlocks in the new trailer of the Dax Shepard-written action comedy, “Hit And Run,” which is co-directed by Shepard and David Palmer. The actor, currently part of the ensemble in NBC’s “Parenthood,” is no stranger to being behind the camera: he was previously behind 2010’s “Brother’s Justice,” again with Palmer as a co-director.

It’s always important to keep in mind, while reading reviews, that interpreting art is a deeply personal experience. What might speak to someone on a visceral, emotional level will slide right over another’s head. Or anger them. Or bore them to tears. The third option was the experience of this writer with Mark and Jay Duplass’ “Do-Deca Pentathlon.”

While Sundance still gets the headlines, the last few years have seen the film strand of South By Southwest, the Austin, Texas cultural conference, become just as vital to the movie world as Robert Redford's baby. The past few festivals alone witnessed some of the best movies of their respective years debut, from low-budget indies like "The Puffy Chair," "Beeswax," "Tiny Furniture" and "Cold Weather" to more mainstream fare like "I Love You Man," "Adventureland" and "Bridesmaids," to international genre hits like "Kill List," "Attack The Block" and "Monsters."

Don't unpack that bag from Sundance too fast. SXSW in Austin, Texas is just around the corner and it has two things over Park City: spring heat and BBQ. With the film festival just over a month away, organizers have dropped their features lineup, and there will be some nice surprises for those making the trek.
