Her, Joaquin Phoenix
About a month ago, word emerged that Joaquin Phoenix was being discussed around the Marvel office for the role of Doctor Strange. He's was seen buying "Doctor Strange" comics, and the trades said he was being "mentioned most often" for the part. But chatter doesn't always equal signed contracts, and wish list desires don't always work out. But maybe they will in this case.

Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye
Jeremy Renner is going to be very busy for the next year. The actor has started shooting “Mission: Impossible 5” with Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie (he’s still part of the team even though it wasn’t properly announced) and next summer he’ll be shooting the fifth, as-yet-untitled ‘Bourne’ movie for a summer 2016 release.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
Unless you’ve been locked in the Kyln, you probably noticed that “Guardians Of The Galaxy” opened this past weekend. Marvel’s latest extravaganza, a space adventure directed by Troma graduate James Gunn, was seen in advance of its release as the riskiest of the studio’s ten movies: based on a mostly comic known only to "Marvel Zombies"; unfamiliar characters; significantly different in setting and tone to megahit “The Avengers”; a cast comprised of untested B-listers as well as A-listers voicing an animated raccoon and a tree.

With the long-rumored Benedict Cumberbatch taking himself out of the running to lead Marvel's "Doctor Strange" yesterday at Comic-Con, it was likely only a matter of time until another name popped onto the radar. And we have to admit, we really didn't see this one coming.

Marvel, Comic-Con 2014
It’s Marvel’s world and the rest of us are just living in it— at least when it comes to Comic-Con. The superhero studio juggernaut hasn't even presented anything yet (not til Saturday), but they’ve dominated the buzz and conversation down at the marketing tradeshow that is San-Diego Comic-Con. Firstly, they announced a sixth release date last night now that “Amazing Spider-Man 4” is no longer slotted for May 2018 (Marvel scooped up the empty date immediately). Then they’re garnering rave reviews for “Guardians of The Galaxy,” and they’re stealing a lot of thunder with just teaser posters for “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” and “Ant-Man.” Suffice it to say if anyone wants to unseat Marvel as the kings of Comic-Con this year, they’re going to have to start working harder.

Marvel Characters That Could Be Movie
What people forget is that while the WB flexes their muscle, Marvel still has a ridiculously untapped listing of characters, both over at Disney as well as other studios like Fox, Universal and Sony.Marvel’s always going to outnumber and outmuscle them in some ways. The WB can only work on making their movies successful on their own terms.

Deliver Us From Evil, Ramirez
"We're talking. We've been talking," Edgar Ramirez told IGN when asked about whether or not his "Deliver Us From Evil" director Scott Derrickson has discussed the upcoming "Doctor Strange" with him and that's all it takes at the moment to get the rumor mill churning. There's no word if it's for the title role, the villain or something else, but considering the film doesn't have a release date yet, it would seem it's in early stages. But it would seem Marvel, if anything, is trying to get their ducks in a row and we suppose that for now, you can toss Ramirez onto a wishlist pile that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto.

Jon Spaihts, Dr. Strange, Jared Leto
While Marvel haven’t officially announced “Dr. Strange” or its director, Scott Derrickson (“Sinister" the upcoming "Deliver Us From Evil"), it’s clearly happening. And it appears they’re kind of starting over on the script level as Deadline reveals that Jon Spaihts (“Prometheus”) has been hired to write the script. Wait, hasn’t it already been written? Yes. The first draft was credited to Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. But it sounds like Spaihts is mostly starting from scratch.

Well, they aren’t aiming low. Marvel recently hired “Sinister” director Scott Derrickson to direct their adaptation of Marvel Phase 3 character “Dr. Strange,” and apparently they’re moving full speed ahead with the search for actors (guys, what’s with all the Marvel news this late on a Friday?)
