There's one major problem that Jay Roach's political comedy "Dog Fight" faces next year: if the Republican debates have been anything to go by, there's no way that the film, produced by Adam McKay and starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as a pair of rival South Carolina politicians, can hope to live up to the absurdity and sheer hilarity of the primary season that kicks off in only a few weeks. Even the comic brains behind Ron Burgundy surely couldn't come up with a world in which Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich are genuine front-runners in a presidential race, right?

The cast of “Dog Fight” keeps getting more and more interesting. Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis and Jason Sudeikis all made sense for the Jay Roach-directed comedy about two politicians (Ferrell and Galifianakis) running for office. But last week it was announced that “serious actor” Dylan McDermott was joining the cast as a political consultant for Galifianakis’ campaign, and now word is coming through Variety that Indie Spirit Award nominee Brian Cox is being lined up to play Galifianakis’ father.

By Ryan Sartor. After a rough decade on television (“Big Shots,” “Dark Blue”) and an even rougher one in film (“Texas Rangers,” something called “Unbeatable Harold”), things are finally turning around for former “Practice” heartthrob Dylan McDermott. He’s currently starring in the FX series “American Horror Story,” and has now snagged a role in the Will Ferrell/Zach Galifianakis political comedy “Dog Fight” (formerly-titled “Southern Rivals"), playing a political consultant running Galifianakis’ campaign. This will be McDermott’s first chance to flex his onscreen comedic muscles since way back in 1999, when he seduced Neve Campbell—and the world—in the romantic comedy “Three to Tango.” It will be interesting to see if director Jay Roach lets McDermott cut loose with a broad comedic take on the role, or if the actor will be playing it straight, as one would expect.

Sort of like the comedy world version of Jessica Chastain, the "Saturday Night Live" funnyman seemed to be everywhere this year. In addition to starring in "Hall Pass," "Horrible Bosses" and "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy" he also hosted the MTV Movie Awards this summer and will feature in the final season of "Eastbound & Down." And determined to make sure you see his face on the big screen at least once every few months in 2012, the actor has signed up for yet another project.

Also Lines Up Serial Killer Pic 'The Frozen Ground' With John Cusack & Nicolas CageSo, Katherine LaNasa comes to the table with some pretty interesting factoids. She's the ex-wife of both French Stewart and Dennis Hopper (and the mother of Henry Hopper who you saw in "Restless"), and while her name might not be familiar, she's been working steadily for years, mostly on TV, racking up appearances in a number of shows. Maybe you remember her as Lydia in "Two and a Half Men" (see above) or Beverly Ford in "Big Love." She was also the lead on the short lived NBC sitcom "Three Sisters." But the actress is making a huge leap into feature films, and with three projects on the horizon you'll be hearing her name and seeing her more often.
