Alright, the 83rd Annual Academy Award nominations are in. Now it's time to analyze, bitch and moan, celebrate, postulate and what have you, depending on your subjective opinion of the way the noms turned out (it's honestly amusing watching the Oscar "expert" bloggers quiver in their boots about the diminishing shine on "The Social Network" even though it still has a great shot at Best Picture; worlds have been accordingly rocked.).

"The King's Speech" sits on the throne this morning, earning 12 Oscar nominations and looking like the film to beat at the 83rd Academy Awards, while "True Grit" follows with 10 nods and "The Social Network" with 8. Not much in the way of shockers this year, but some pleasant surprises in the mix as well as few snubs.

So, will the Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Film this year be the provocative and daring Greek entry "Dogtooth"? I'm going to put it bluntly: If The Playlist didn't take me on as a contributor I would have never seen as many movies as I had, and nearly half of my list would probably be sitting in my Netflix queue well into 2011. So without being sappy (and yes, in being totally public about it), I appreciate the whole thing more than I could possibly describe. That's the family, the readership, everything -- even "dude" -- thanks for having me.

Once a year, The Playlist team stick their heads above the defensive parapet that is the first-person plural, and put our necks on the line. While there's a certain kinship between all the writers here -- we wouldn't be here if there wasn't -- there's also a real diversity of voices and taste, and we want our year end lists to reflect that. If you missed them, you can check out Kevin's here, Gabe's here and RP's picks here.
