Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson,
The SXSW Film Festival is about to be raging with tex-mex, sticky bbq fingers, hangovers and films in a quick minute. And on the eve of the first night, actor/writer/director Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a message for us. His upcoming directorial debut, a type of porn-addiction dramedy, formerly known as "Don Jon's Addiction," will simply be now known as "Don Jon."

Easily one of the major buzz titles to come out of the Sundance Film Festival this year, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut "Don Jon's Addiction" picked up nearly universal rave reviews, but many people also wondered: would the movie be able to keep the sex scenes intact? Let's rewind a bit. In the film, JGL has the titular lead, a porn addicted lothario who begins a relationship with two different women and tries to unplug from the smut he thoroughly enjoys. The movie itself also contains a handful of porn clips, but it looks like they will be getting the axe.

Now that the acquisitions floodgates are open, the buys keep piling up like it's Black Friday in studio shopping baskets, and this afternoon has brought news of the biggest deal yet at the festival, with Variety the first trade to report that Relativity Media are set to put down a what may be a record-breaking sum for "Don Jon's Addiction," the raunchy comedy that marks the directorial debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film also stars the "Looper" actor as a modern-day New Jersey Casanova, who's unable to form real relationships with women due to his porn addiction, but begins to soften up after meeting two women, a younger girl (Scarlett Johansson) and an older classmate (Julianne Moore), and we'd picked it out as one of the films likely to spark off a bidding war.

Jon Martello is the quintessential modern-day lothario. He and his friends objectify women, rate them on a scale of one to ten and cruise clubs for chicks that they can bed and discard. Jon, in particular, is exceptionally good at wooing the ladies with his muscles, slick-backed hair and cocky charms. His life, as he tells us in voiceover, is all about his friends, the gym, his ride (a Camaro muscle car), his family, church (no, really), girls and pornography. Lots and lots of pornography. Jon is an inveterate and compulsive porn addict, so much so that it prevents him from having a substantial relationship with any female. Jon Martello, in case you missed it, is a total guido from New Jersey, complete with "Jersey Shore "accent.

The legend goes that when Wong Kar-Wai brought "2046" to the Cannes Film Festival, the print was still dripping as he worked until the very last minute to finish it. And to say that his latest, the martial arts biopic "The Grandmaster," has had a few road bumps and delays would be an understatement. The film has been in production on and off for the past couple of years, and had things gone according to plan, it would be in theaters in China now, opening this week. But of course, WKW had to continue tinkering, and the release date was pushed to January 8, 2013. But it seems the end is nigh, god willing, and "The Grandmaster" has set an international bow.
