Want to know the secret to becoming Hollywood's hottest screenwriter? It turns out all you have to do is write a British superhero sitcom that no one watches. At least that's how U.K. scribe Drew Pearce broke through; he was behind the excellent but little-seen ITV2 show "No Heroics" a few years back, and now he's seemingly writing every blockbuster in theaters.

After just about as successful a start as you could ask for (three new franchises, and one mega-franchise that kicked off with the third biggest movie of all time), the Marvel movie machine is moving into its next phase. And with it comes the risk of dilution; we're getting at least two movies a year (plus TV series "Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D"), and with countless other superheroes also in the marketplace, there's a chance that diminishing returns could set in; what was once a special chance to see much-loved characters on the big screen might simply become a bi-annual check in to see much of what we've seen before.

Jason Segel and music, are like peanut butter and chocolate. The actor rarely heads into a project that doesn't have him contributing at least a bit of musical flavor, whether it's slappin' de bass with Paul Rudd while listening to Rush in "I Love You Man," creating a vampire puppet theater show in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," trying to live his dream as the drummer of Dimension in "Freaks And Geeks" or just going all-out with the Muppets in "The Muppets." But now, he's going to put a safety pin through his ear and spike that hair up.

'Iron Man 3' Writer Drew Pearce To Do Minor Rewrite On Gareth Edwards' 'Godzilla'

"Godzilla" is happening, and likely realizing just how important (and potentially lucrative) this franchise is, Legendary and Warner Bros. are making sure everything is done to ensure the best movie possible. While Comic-Con attendees got a memorable teaser this summer, the unveiling was also likely a testing ground of sorts, and you can bet that if response was muted, the studio wouldn't have booked a 2014 release. The wheels are firmly in motion for "Monsters" director Gareth Edwards' first stab at the blockbuster pie, but before casting begins, the script will get one last, tiny polish.

Unlike in theater or television, writers generally get the short end of the stick in the movie business. When a film doesn't work, the script is blamed, when it does work, the director gets credit. Writers get fired, rehired, fired again, rewritten and screwed out of credit. But that's not to say that once they get the momentum behind them, a screenwriter can't become just as talked about as actors, actresses and directors around Hollywood watering holes and meeting rooms.

Sony loves Will Gluck. In the course of three movies (“Fired Up!,” “Easy A,” and “Friends With Benefits”) he transformed the company’s Screen Gems shingle from a cheap huckster of common genre flicks (the “Underworld” movies, “Takers,” “Priest,” “Burlesque”) into the premiere haven for somewhat-intelligent inexpensive mainstream comedy features (and, yes, also, common genre flicks).

Drew Pearce has been having one helluva year. This man best known for his work on the U.K. superhero series "No Heroics" as well as penning the currently shelved Marvel flick "Runaways," was tapped this spring to co-write "Iron Man 3" with Shane Black. Paramount also snagged Pearce to adapt the DC Comic “The Mighty” as well. And the big jobs just keep on coming.

Writer Drew Pearce has quickly moved up the ladder to become of the most sought after scribes for comic fare. Pearce broke out as the producer/writer of the British superhero comedy "No Heroics" and has since landed a couple of high profile gigs, co-writing "Iron Man 3" with director Shane Black and penning the DC Comic "The Mighty" for Paramount. But before both of these, Pearce had readied a script for "The Runaways," a Marvel movie that was gearing up to shoot last year with Peter Sollet ("Raising Victor Vargas,” “Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist”) directing before being taken off the slate in the fall. It seems two superhero team-up movies were a bit much for Marvel to take on all at once.
