Update: We've been informed that the music in the clip is actually Johnny Jewel's "Tick of the Clock." Originally it was song by his previous group Chromatics, but it was remade specifically for "Drive."

Says He Loved Alexandre Desplat's 'The King's Speech' Score & Was Hoping It Would Take The OscarFor years Cliff Martinez has been producing brilliant, but often times below-the-radar, scores, doing a lot of work for Steven Soderbergh. His first score was Soderbergh’s first film -- “sex, lies, and videotape” -- and from there the two have collaborated on a number of projects, including “Solaris,” "Kafka," "The Limey" and “Traffic.” That relationship is still going strong as they will be reteaming once again, on this fall’s virus thriller “Contagion.” On the occasion that Martinez does work for another filmmaker, the results are usually just as compelling (particularly his score for Joe Carnahan’s “Narc”). We recently spoke to Martinez about his work on the legal drama and sleeper box office hit “The Lincoln Lawyer,” his process, and about what he has in store for us with his work on Nicolas Winding Refn’s Cannes-bound “Drive.”

Year after year, some of the world's best directors hold off to debut their new films on the Croisette, and virtually every year brings at least one stone-cold classic -- along, of course, with the famous Cannes bombs. With last year's selection generally deemed to be the weakest in a while, has this year's batch (the 64th!) turned things around? Cliff Martinez To Score Nicolas Winding Refn's 'Drive'

It may not surprise you when we say that we're extremely excited about Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive." The Danish director made a massive impression with the one-two punch of "Bronson" and "Valhalla Rising" a couple of years back, both films confirming the promise he showed with the "Pusher" trilogy. For his Hollywood debut, a minimalist crime thriller based on the novel by the great James Sallis, about a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver, he's assembled quite a cast, led by Ryan Gosling, and also including Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Ron Perlman, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks and Oscar Isaacs.

That’s right, 2010 is already in our rear view and we’re looking far, far ahead into 2011. If 2010 was the year of audiences rewarding original, smart blockbusters (“Inception”) and punishing glossy, but empty big-budget tentpoles (“The Tourist,” “Tron: Legacy”) the new year will find studios hoping once again that comic franchises and sequels can bring in the big bucks. No less than five comic-book movies are on the way with “Thor,” “Captain America,” “Green Lantern,” “Green Hornet” and “X-Men: First Class” all swinging into theaters, while tried-and-true franchises get sequels with “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Transformers 3,” “The Hangover 2” and “Sherlock Holmes 2” among the films looking to bank on previous successes.

We're bordering on giving Nicolas Winding Refn a *** job with all the myriad reports on his work, but what can we say, we admire the Danish filmmakers work ("Bronson," "The Pusher" trilogy, "Valhalla Rising") and his upcoming film "Drive" is very high up on our most anticipated 2011 list. So we'll keep it brief.

It probably doesn't need to be said, but Nicolas Winding Refn's Hollywood debut, "Drive," is easily one of our most anticipated films of 2011. Boasting an incredibly strong cast featuring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Ron Perlman, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, Christina Hendricks and Oscar Issac, it's no wonder that it was a hot property with a number of indie studios vying for the rights of the relatively low, $30 million budgeted film.
