Ed Helms, you duplicitious bastard! “I have no idea where that bubbled up,” Helms told us this spring about rumors he was going to be in New Line's reboot/spinoff/sequel to the "Vacation" franchise. “I don’t know where that came from. It’s nothing I know of.” So either the studios were listening to rumors and ran with them, he was on their wishlist, or the actor was being coy, but either way, it turns out he's going be in it anyway.

While the youngsters of "Project X" filled out Warner Bros. dudes-getting-drunk-and-into-trouble niche this year to the tune of $94 million worldwide (not bad for a low budget movie with no big names attached to it), in 2013 The Wolfpack will be back to show 'em how it's done in "The Hangover Part III." And while chatter has been pretty steady ever since "The Hangover Part II" about what the final entry of the series will involve, it now seems like a clearer picture is emerging of what the movie will entail.

As surreal as it is to see a micro-budget Duplass Brothers film start with the stars and mountainous terrain of the Paramount logo, in many ways that contradiction and clash sets the tone for their new comedy "Jeff Who Lives at Home." Strange things are afoot in the cosmos as Jeff (played with affable confusion and large-framed, good-hearted charm by Jason Segel) is trying to keep his eyes open for what the universe might be telling him, in terms of his destiny and purpose. Also, his mom Sharon (Susan Sarandon) would like it if he could get his ass off the couch in her basement and go to Home Depot to get wood glue to fix a broken pantry door slat …

Besides Bradley Cooper, outside of the "The Hangover" movies, The Wolfpack -- namely Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis -- haven't yet proved their names alone can bring in decent box office receipts. Earlier this year, the Helms-led "Cedar Rapids" brought in a fairly underwhelming $6 million, though the picture did have some decent legs in limited release. Meanwhile, Galifianakis' dramedy "It's Kind Of A Funny Story" also petered out at $6 million last fall. Sure, he starred in "Due Date" as well, but that was mostly sold on its connection between Todd Phillips and "The Hangover," and it certainly didn't hurt that Robert Downey Jr. was the co-star in the movie. But the bottom line is both are very funny guys, and if leading man status isn't here just yet, it's undoubtedly around the corner, so it's no surprise that Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films is getting behind another Helms vehicle.

Plus Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig & Adam Scott In 'Friends With Kids'Lots of Toronto first looks coming down the wire today, so we'll keep it brief, but two of the more anticipated comedies that'll bow at the festival just had their first official stills released. First up is "Jeff Who Lives At Home," the second mainstream picture from The Duplass Brothers, who became indie favorites with films like "The Puffy Chair" and "Baghead," proving to be standouts of the so-called 'mumblecore' scene, before getting to work with bigger names and budgets on last year's excellent "Cyrus."

The rise of Ed Helms has been pretty phenomenal. The former "The Daily Show" correspondent got a big career boost joining the third season of "The Office" in 2006 as the hapless Andy Bernard and then a few years later rocketed to stardom in "The Hangover." But the actor has been playing it cool since the megahit film. Aside from "The Hangover Part II," he's also had a major starring role in "Cedar Rapids" which hit screens earlier this year but Warner Bros. really really want to stay in the Ed Helms business. Back in 2009, Helms was attached to time-traveling Civil War comedy at the studio and now he's got another project brewing there.

Todd Phillips Rips Movie Critic David Poland A New Asshole, Cast And Crew Talk Getting Sick On Set & Possible Spin-Off FilmsAhh, "The Hangover Part II." Todd Phillips' sequel is already upon us and has already grossed $31 million in its first day of release (it's evidently on track for a $100-$125 million Memorial Day opening weekend; the masses like a familiar opiate).

Review: 'The Hangover Part II' Is A Lazy, Unpleasant & Unfunny Mess

Unlike most of the summer movies, which seem to be thundering into theaters without any real anticipation beyond the cacophonous marketing hype, "The Hangover Part II" seems to be a film people are unreasonably excited for. The 2009 original, directed by Todd Phillips, has metamorphosed from simply being the biggest R-rated comedy of all time (and winner of a Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy Golden Globe) to being a movie that average filmgoers consider an instant "classic" of the genre and a staple of any fun-lover's DVD collection. (It's also the biggest selling comedy DVD of all time. Jesus.) The prospect of another movie, again starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis, coming this quickly, has been tantalizing for cinemagoers and something that is getting people really, really jazzed, which makes it somewhat harder to report that "The Hangover Part II" is one of the laziest, unself-aware and most unpleasant Hollywood products we've seen all year. And we just saw the fourth "Pirates Of The Caribbean" movie a couple of weeks ago.
