Something must be in the water (maybe it was the approaching Mayan apocalypse, which never happened), because end-of-the-world comedies are very much in vogue in 2013. There's Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley in "Rapturepalooza," Seth Rogen and co in "The End Of The World," and indie "It's A Disaster," but certainly our most anticipated of all of them is "The World's End," the film which marks the third in the so-called Cornetto trilogy, written by Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, directed by the former, and starring the latter alongside Nick Frost.

Well, it's a wrap. Production has ended on Edgar Wright's "The World's End" and star Simon Pegg has tweeted out the first look from the film. It's not terribly exciting as a photo, but it does showcase the fantastic English cast which includes Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, "The Hobbit" star Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan. Not pictured, but still included in this solid cast is Rosamund Pike.

Review: Steven Spielberg's 'The Adventures Of Tintin' Is A Gloriously Enjoyable Mo-Cap Marvel

Across his 40 year career as Hollywood's most beloved filmmaker, Steven Spielberg has tried his hand at many different things -- the blockbuster thrill ride, the family film, the comedy, the war film, hardcore science-fiction, serious dramas and whatever it was that "The Terminal" was, a diverse range of pictures united by that certain Spielberg je-ne-sais-quoi. But there's something he's never tackled directly himself; the animated film. Sure, he's produced TV cartoons like "Animaniacs," and even the occasional big-screen one, like "An American Tail" and "We're Back," but for the most part, the Bearded One has always preferred live action to ink and pixels.

Comedy 'I, Macrobane' With Nick Frost Will Follow In 2012Perhaps the biggest homegrown hit of Empire Big Screen over the weekend was Ben Wheatley's "Kill List," a low-budget hitman/horror flick from the director of the excellent, terminally underseen crime film "Down Terrace." More than perhaps any other British film that had footage shown, the clips had people talking for much of the weekend, and director Ben Wheatley hit the event on Saturday, along with stars Neil Maskell and MyAnna Buring, to get the buzz going. If you've read our review from SXSW, you'll know that it's a film worth getting very excited about (it even made one member of The Playlist team physically ill -- in a good way), and it crystallizes Wheatley as a real talent to watch.

Edgar Wright Says 'Ant-Man' Script Was Handed In This Week & That He & Simon Pegg Will Start Writing Third 'Cornetto' Film Next MonthBelieve, bruv. Riding a massive wave of hype since its world premiere at SXSW in March, Joe Cornish's debut "Attack the Block" has been championed by the geek set and with good reason. Compact, surprisingly complex and just flat out entertaining, the film offers a great twist on the alien invasion movie, placing the action in a council estate in south London and pitting a group of young teens against the vicious invading creatures who are black as night and sport an impressive array of glow in the dark teeth. Mixing newcomers with more established actors like Nick Frost, Luke Treadaway and Jodie Whittaker, the film moves with a street authenticity mixed with genre elements working at the top their game. With the film set to be released next week, the cast and filmmakers descended upon San Diego to talk up the film.

One of the biggest question marks of the year has been Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin." The director's coming off the worst film of his career, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," and tackling a comic book that few in the U.S. have heard of, in the performance capture manner that's seen the undoing of Robert Zemeckis in recent years, seemed like a fairly risky move, all things considered. And it doesn't help that the film's been mostly shrouded in mystery.

First Trailer To Arrive Tomorrow MorningFor one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, at least everywhere except the U.S, word's been strangely quiet on "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn." Uniting blockbuster giants Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson for the first time (the former's directing, the latter producing), on an adaptation of the massively successful graphic novel series about a Belgian boy detective, his dog Snowy, his best friend, a drunken sea captain, and the adventures they go on, we had a glimpse of a handful of images before Christmas, but little since then. We guess because the film's being realized in performance-capture computer animation, and so Sony and Paramount have presumably had to wait until the polish has been put on properly.

In case you haven't heard, "Attack The Block" killed Saturday night at SXSW and our writers in Austin flat out loved it (check out our review). We got some coffee in our system and sat down with director Joe Cornish and executive producer Edgar Wright on Sunday to talk about the film, and they revealed a little bit of progress on "Ant-Man," the film adaptation comic fans have been speculating about for a while now.

It seems that Edgar Wright has been on a never-ending press run for the past little while. With the run of interviews for "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" now ending -- it only recently opened in Japan -- the helmer is currently in Austin helping to get the word out about Joe Cornish's alien invasion flick "Attack The Block" which he executive produced and played to a gangbusters reception at SXSW last night (look for our review later today). While Wright is yet to decide on his followup to 'Pilgrim', in an interview with Collider, Wright revealed he's been given the chance to take another crack at zombies in one of the most acclaimed new television series of last fall.

Third Installment Of The Cornetto Trilogy Not Even Started, C'mon Guys!If you don't speak geek-ese like we do, here's a translation: The "Three Flavours Cornetto" trilogy is the unofficial nickname of the films made by director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (a nice knowing nod to Krzysztof Kieslowski which we appreciate) Presumably, you've heard of the first two installments, "Shaun Of The Dead" and "Hot Fuzz," and while they are not sequels of any kind, they all star Pegg and Frost, they're penned by Pegg and Wright and they're directed by the "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" filmmaker.
