Multi-hyphenate Eli Roth certainly hasn't just been lazing about over the past decade—he tackled a sizeable role as the Bear Jew in buddy Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds," kick-started a new horror franchise as a producer with "The Last Exorcism," and soon will even be starring in Chilean earthquake thriller "Aftershock" (which he also produced)—but he has been absent from the director's chair since 2007's "Hostel: Part 2." While many are divided on whether Roth is a genre maven or just a lucky hack, there's no denying he's had a solid fan base hounding for an extension of his "Grindhouse" faux trailer "Thanksgiving" for some time now, with Roth even looking to expand the scope of his filmmaking with a big budget sci-fi picture entitled "Endangered Species." Word has been quiet on both those fronts, but now a little news has stirred up that could have Roth finally directing on a much larger scale.

The "Hostel" franchise was never any great piece of cinematic art. It basically just got a bunch of attractive young people together and then tortured them all for our cinematic "pleasure." But as low rent as the series has been so far, the upcoming direct-to-DVD sequel is far more shallow and lame-brained than even we would have expected.

Eli Roth: bold new voice in genre film or an overrated, exploitative hack? Well, that depends on who you ask but there is no denying that the filmmaker is a force in the industry. Of course, as a director he's got "Cabin Fever" and the "Hostel" films under his belt, and he's been making waves as a producer as well, throwing his weight behind last year's no budget horror flick "The Last Exorcism," RZA's upcoming "The Man with the Iron Fists" and the fake-movie-trailer-turned-movie "Clown." And while he directed the "Nation's Pride" segment in "Inglourious Basterds", it's been been five long years since "Hostel: Part II" but he's keeping his eyes on the prize as his next full length feature is looking to be one he's been talking up for a while.

Blaxpolitation icon Pam Grier of "Jackie Brown" fame has joined the cast of RZA and Eli Roth's currently-in-production kung-fu epic "The Man With The Iron Fists" marking something of a return to the limelight; she also has a supporting role in Tom Hanks' upcoming film "Larry Crowne."

How do you make it to Hollywood? Apparently, all you have to do is produce a fake movie trailer that barely becomes an Internet meme and put Eli Roth's name on it.

Well, here's a project we're going to keep an eye on. Eli Roth, producer Eric Newman ("Children Of Men," "Dawn Of The Dead") and StudioCanal have teamed on an intriguing serial killer film, the appropriately titled, "Psycho Killer." So why are we interested?
