‘Grand Piano
A welcome reminder that high-concept thrillers needn’t rely on stupid coincidences and even stupider characters in order to succeed, “Grand Piano” turns the unlikeliest of scenarios into a riveting battle of wills. The story of a concert pianist whose comeback performance gets hijacked by a sniper with a secret agenda, director Eugenio Mira’s latest film breathlessly combines artistic anxiety and personal desperation, providing its character with a journey as intense emotionally as it is physically. In fact, probably the best Brian De Palma movie he never made, “Grand Piano” expands the boundaries of single-location, real-time mysteries like “Phone Booth” and “Panic Room” with a brilliantly simple concept and nimble, elegant style.

Well, it's a indie and the the debut film of Atlas Independent, the newly-formed affiliate company of Charles Roven’s Atlas Entertainmenta company that focuses on development and production of films budgeted under $10 million (Roven known by fans as one of the producers of Christopher Nolan's Batman series).

The cast members of "The Lord of the Rings" have had mixed success in the eight years since the franchise wrapped up. Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom became fully-fledged movie stars (the latter less so in recent years), and Dominic Monaghan managed surprising longevity as a star of "Lost," but Sean Astin's mostly been stuck in Adam Sandler movies and one-off TV appearances, while we're pretty sure that Billy Boyd washed our windshield at a traffic light not so long ago.

Yeah, yeah we know. Given the rumors swirling around the past couple days, confirmation was inevitable, but a fresh press release dispatched tonight has confirmed that Elijah Wood will indeed be returning for "The Hobbit." It's largely believed that he will appear in the opening sequence of the film, reading from or telling the tale from the “Red Book of Westmarch" (that Bilbo and Frodo both wrote in during "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy) allowing himself—and the viewers—to experience Bilbo’s story. There are still a few more expected names to be officially locked in (i.e. Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis) but that is likely to be coming prior to the beginning of lensing next month.

As word of Elijah Wood's potential return to the franchise that made him a worldwide star picked up yesterday, it was a bit of a question mark how Frodo would factor at all into the story that doesn't feature him at all. Well, the very well informed and well sourced fansite, The One Ring, have picked up the ball and run with it, revealing that Peter Jackson and co. have found a clever way of bringing the star back and linking "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy with the "The Hobbit." Obviously, if you don't want to know stop reading and yes, there are spoilers ahead.
