Originally announced three years ago with “Paranormal Activity” director Oren Peli at the helm, the long-brewing Edgar Allan Poe-inspired project “Eliza Graves” is now moving forward with “The Machinist” helmer Brad Anderson in the director’s chair. And he’s added two big names to appear alongside Kate Beckinsale and Jim Sturgess.

With two epic sci-fi sagas -- "Cloud Atlas" and "Upside Down" -- in recent memory, along with a straight-to-video Brit crime flick ("Ashes"), a movie with Giuseppe Tornatore ("The Best Offer" -- our review) and a Somali pirate movie in the works, Jim Sturgess has been a bit all over the place of late, and that's not about to change.

Oren Peli announced himself as a genre director to watch after he caught Steven Spielberg’s attention and delivered the stripped back, franchise-launching “Paranormal Activity” in 2007. But since then Peli has only taken on director’s duties once more (on the forthcoming “Area 51”) and has instead seen his focus shift primarily to producing and writing. And that’s a trend that seems set to continue after departing the director’s chair on the Edgar Allen Poe project, “Eliza Graves.”

At one time linked to Jodie Foster to direct, with Ian McKellan and Natalie Portman in the starring roles, "Eliza Graves" has been a long gestating project in Hollywood that has attracted some top shelf talent but it looks like it's finally moving forward with hot director of the moment.
