The discussion around product-placement has increased in recent weeks, mostly thanks to "The Internship" which some have called "Google: The Movie." Some of that talk has been a bit overblown, as Vince Vaughn and co. actually approached the company to ask if they could use them, preferring to use a real company as the thrust of the story instead of a fake corporation. Moreover, Google didn't actually produce the movie either, so while yes, their name is everywhere, it's part and parcel of the actual movie and story.

Matt Damon, Elysium
The battle to keep surprises in store for an audience versus the need for mass marketing a major tentpole can be a tricky balance, but so far this year it seems studios are wising up. "Iron Man 3" and "Man Of Steel" both had extensive campaigns, yet kept big twists and plot developments under firm lock and key while stoking excitement for these franchise movies. And while we wait to see if Fox pulls a "Prometheus" and eventually ruins "The Wolverine," Sony is showing off a bit more of Neill Blomkamp's original tentpole (a rarity) "Elysium" with a brand new trailer.

So, we're at the midway point of the summer blockbuster season, with "Man Of Steel" set to hit theaters this weekend. But there is plenty more spectacle to come with Guillermo Del Toro's "Pacific Rim" stomping into theaters next month, "The Lone Ranger" galloping into cinemas, "World War Z" ready to unleash holy hell, and "The Wolverine" bearing his claws soon. And one more hoping to bring the sizzle to the multiplex BBQ is Neill Blomkamp's "Elysium."

As we mentioned earlier today in our giant summer movie preview, "Elysium," Neil Blomkamp's eagerly awaited follow-up to his groundbreaking "District 9," is one of the movies we're most looking forward to this summer. Pitched between social commentary and sci-fi spectacle, the movie envisions a futuristic earth that's ruined and toxic, with the most powerful and wealthy humans living on an orbiting space station called Elysium. As two new photos from the movie show, Earth really has gone to hell.

The Playlist's Most Anticipated Blockbusters Of The 2013 Summer Season
Ah, summer. That time of year marked by long days, short skirts, and the application of sunscreen. It’s the season where even the most hardened cineaste can put aside their Criterion Collection discs, if only for a moment, and get excited about the jazzy, visual effects-driven blockbusters coming down the pike. The line between “summer” and “any other time of the year,” in terms of movies, keeps getting blurrier and blurrier, with big-budget studio fare like “Oz the Great and Powerful” and “Oblivion” coming out in the spring (we had a Michael Bay movie open in April, for crying out loud – before this it was questionable whether or not he even existed outside of June or July).

BRAAAM! 10 Trailers That Steal The Inception sound
"What's the most resilient parasite? An idea." Little did Christopher Nolan know when he wrote that line, he’d need to add an addendum: an idea that keeps getting pickpocketed over and over again until it loses meaning and ownership, and becomes simply background noise to the general cultural conversation. It's appropriate, when you think about it, and something that Cobb (and team Nolan) would likely appreciate, that the memory of this ubiquitous sound's origins are slowly fading away. The Hans Zimmer-composed ominous pitched-down “Inception” horn blast, known as “The 'Inception' BRAAAM" (number of 'r's and 'a's may vary) has been resilient indeed, an idea homaged, appropriated and straight-up nicked time and time again since its... wait for it... inception.

Elysium trailer
In case you missed it, yesterday evening Sony finally unveiled the long-awaited trailer for "Elysium," Neill Blomkamp's rather ambitious sci-fi follow-up to the dazzling and creative, "District 9." Starring Matt Damon and set in 2154, "Elysium" looks like a direct commentary on "the haves and have-nots." It's set in a future where the ruling class are on Elysium, an elite luxury space station above the planet, while the 99% are stuck on a ravaged and resource-drained Earth, both brutally overpopulated and polluted. And we've got to say: the trailer looks tantalizing and incredible, with some spectacular effects that point to some potential next-level shit.

"Elysium," the latest from "District 9" writer/director Neill Blomkamp, has finally been brought kicking and screaming into the public view, with the first trailer dropping last night. And the result? Looks pretty damn epic, no? But don't get too confident you've seen everything yet. Blomkamp likely still wants to keep some surprises in store, but a few more new images have arrived to give another peek at the sci-fi world being put together.

Matt Damon, Elysium
In case you haven't been on the internet in the past 24 hours, Sony has broken open the doors on Neill Blomkamp's until now secretive sci-fi "Elysium." Press got a dose of ten minutes of footage yesterday (read our breakdown right here), along with the trailer you're about to see below. And even more, Blomkamp talked up the movie, his desire for "Aliens"-style slime and eggs in his next movie and his thoughts on "Halo" and taking on pre-existing franchises already.
