So far. filmmaker Zack Snyder's made a zombie movie ("Dawn Of The Dead"), a glossy testosterone-addled swords and sandals epic ("300"), an ironic, deconstructed super hero film (which isn't that ironic or deconstructed, but whatever, let him have fun with words; "Watchmen") and a fantasy-filled femme fatales music video ("Sucker Punch"). Curiously, Snyder calls a movie about an alien who comes from another planet, is fostered by human beings and then grows up to be a god, only to see his new adopted planet become besieged by overlords from his former home, "the most realistic movie I’ve made.” Of course he's talking about his latest picture, the Superman film, "Man Of Steel."

Not only does "The Dark Knight Rises" cap off Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise, it marks the end of an era of sorts for both the director and cinematographer Wally Pfister. Becoming a true titan of cinema, of which there are few, the kind who can get anything greenlit, who take critical plaudits and giant box office success in equal measure, isn't easy. Even Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick relied on studio patronage to get their films out, leaving... let's say Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg and James Cameron at the top of the list. And, by following up billion-dollar success "The Dark Knight" with "Inception," a difficult passion project that made a ton of money and got a Best Picture nomination, Christopher Nolan joined them.
