John Carney To Direct 'Sing Street' With Music From Bono & The Edge, Mark Romanek Sees 'The Visitors' & More

While he's done some other lower key pictures, the ones director John Carney is best known for involve song, and he's sticking to his strength. The "Once" helmer will get behind the camera for "Sing Street," with none other than Bono and The Edge to write some original songs for the picture.

Avi Lerner has found a pretty successful formula with "The Expendables." With two films grossing just under $600 million worldwide combined, and a third on the way, the recipe of old-people-doing-action-stuff has paid off well. But why just relegate the franchise to the dudes? You may have forgotten, but last year a female twist on the series was put into development called "ExpendaBelles" (GET IT?) and it seems it's actually a thing that might happen.

There is nothing Hollywood likes better than rehashing ideas. So even though Millenium Entertainment were late the party -- with production company 1984 Private Defense Contractors beating them to the idea of a female "The Expendables" and casting Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff -- they are getting the ball rolling on their own riff on the riff of an idea that is already totally fucking played out.
