...and then there were two. It was just over a week ago when it was announced that Marvel was looking at George Nolfi ("The Adjustment Bureau"), F. Gary Gray ("Friday," "The Italian Job") and Joe and Anthony Russo ("Welcome To Collinwood," "You, Me & Dupree") for "Captain America 2" (which has since landed a April 4, 2014 release date). Well, it looks like one name is out of the running.

Guessing who Marvel are going to pick to direct their movies is increasingly becoming a fool's errand. We could see why Jon Favreau and Louis Leterrier were picked to helm "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." But since that opening salvo, they've mostly shied away from A-list names and those experienced with action, with names like Kenneth Branagh, Joss Whedon and Shane Black being picked out to helm "Thor," "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3."

Hollywood moves fast and literally days after director John Singleton told us he was in some early discussions about making a biopic about seminal gangsta rappers N.W.A. the tide appears to be shifting. But first let's rewind a moment.

F. Gary Gray has had a bit of a bumpy ride in finding his next film after "Law Abiding Citizen." Last year he was on board to direct the video game adaptation "Kane & Lynch" with Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx before that project ran into development hell, and earlier this year he was shortlisted for "G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes" (with that job going to Jon Chu) but it looks like he's landed on something new.

Really? Jaume Collet-Serra, F. Gary Gray & Jon Chu On Shortlist To Direct 'G.I. Joe 2'

When it was revealed last month that Stephen Sommers had been quietly removed from the director's chair of "G.I. Joe 2," we figured that a shortlist of contenders would come sooner rather than later. Well, it's been a month and Paramount has apparently got their ducks in a row and have a trio of uh, interesting choices to take over the gig.
