Also Says He Wants Saoirse Ronan To Be His 'Little Mermaid'Joe Wright's forthcoming "Hanna" was a massive gear change for the director. A pure genre pic with choreographed fights and a blitzing soundtrack from the Chemical Brothers, it was a far cry from the usual fare by the director of "Atonement" and "Pride & Prejudice." And while his next film, "Anna Karenina," will find him back in costumed period territory, he's got a couple of other projects in the cooker that will once again find him branching out into new terrain. We recently chatted with the director and he shared a couple of tidbits about some films that may be on the horizon for him.

In case you haven't noticed, Hollywood has fairy tale fever. "Red Riding Hood" hit theaters last month, and that's just the start of a forthcoming onslaught that will include "Jack The Giant Killer," "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters," "Snow White And The Huntsman," Tarsem Singh's Snow White film and just last week a Sleeping Beauty movie was packaged with Hailee Steinfeld in the lead. As you may have forgotten, "Hanna" director Joe Wright was eyeing his own fairy tale-based movie but he may put it off for now.

At the end of last week, Relativity announced that Lily Collins had landed the plum role in Tarsem Singh's upcoming take on Snow White (formerly known as "Brothers Grimm: Snow White"). The actress broke out in 2009 opposite Sandra Bullock in "The Blind Side" and has lined up a number of high profile upcoming films including the Taylor Lautner thriller "Abduction" as well "Mortal Instruments." But for Tarsem, who we caught up with at WonderCon where he was promoting the forthcoming "Immortals," maybe it was something else entirely that captured his attention.

As we're sure you're aware by now, there are three duelling projects retelling the tale of Snow White in development. One, Disney's "Snow and the Seven," is the furthest away -- while "Toy Story 3" writer Michael Arndt recently signed on to do a script polish, and director Francis Lawrence is still nominally attached, it has no star, and no start date. Another, Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman," was once leading the pack, and does have Kristen Stewart signed on in the title role, but seems to have hit problems in recent days -- Charlize Theron still hasn't signed on as the villain, and Viggo Mortensen's talks have apparently collapsed.

'Clash Of The Titans' Sequel Will Square Off Against 'Hunger Games' On March 30, 2012For every big movie that shifts its release date, there's a studio across town panicked by the move. With a jam-packed couple of years ahead, every slight change in the calendar has domino-like ramifications; for instance, Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" was initially announced for March 2012, but was almost immediately pushed to summer after Disney's "John Carter of Mars" moved in on the same date. Yesterday brought a couple of new changes that promise to cause problems for some rival projects.

Can't keep track of the trifecta of Snow White movies in development? We don't blame you. Just as Kristen Stewart has entered negotiations for "Snow White And The Huntsman" for Universal this evening, and Michael Arndt came aboard to write "Snow And The Seven" for Disney yesterday, Relativity Media have countered with news of one of the biggest stars in the world now in talks for their film.

There’s a lot of bad movies released every year. Lots. We are but humans, and we can’t see them all. But someone always does. Sometimes it’s many (“The Twilight Saga”). Sometimes few (“Birdemic: Shock and Terror”). But there’s truly something to be said about the general public’s hunger for art that asks so little of them that they’re probably better off spending their time at home, masturbating or sticking firecrackers up their cat’s ass. Or both at the same time. We don’t judge. Maybe a little.
