The Onion Hilariously Interviews Screenwriter Chris MorganOn the face of it, this weekend's "Fast Five" pretty much seems like yet another rote entry in the series, but for Universal, the film is anything but usual. According to the LA Times, the film is budgeted somewhere between $125-170 million, the most expensive film yet in the series that thus far has kept expenses on each outing under triple digits. But more importantly, it will find the franchise shifting gears (pun intentional) moving away from the gearhead origins and shifting into something else, a heist series that won't require new viewers to know anything about the previous films.

While we may bemoan studios forever clinging to sequels and franchises, there is a very good reason why. They make shitloads of money. Thus far, "The Fast And The Furious" franchise has brought just under $1 billion worldwide at the box office, doing more than triple the budget for these films. That's in-freakin-sanity. And with "Fast Five" revving its engines to hit theaters next week, it's hardly surprising that Universal already have their eyes on a sixth installment.

Here's another quick round up of the latest posters from a handful of movies due out in the next couple of months. Summer movie season will be here before you know it and that means the pre-summer movies will start rolling out in April. (We can't believe it either.) That means lots and lots of poster debuts for the various franchises, sequels and spinoffs coming over the next 6 months.

Additional Superbowl Ads From 'Drive Angry 3D,' 'Rango,' 'Kung Fu Panda 2,' 'Rio,' Limitless,' 'Just Go With It' & Many, Many MoreApparently there's this thing called the Superbowl on TV. This writer doesn't even have the TV on, but gotta say, watching Twitter watch the Superbowl ads is pretty amusing. There will be spots from 2011 movies popping up during the show all night. Below are some of the latest that have aired, including, "Battle: Los Angeles," "Fast Five," and "Priest," plus other spots released earlier in the week. The best one so far of all these, is by far, Jonathan Liebesman's alien invasion picture starring Aaron Eckhart. Trailers below.

The Answer Is Probably Not, But Hey, What The Hell...Our exhausting coverage of the films coming out in 2011 continues and yes, we're tired, hungry and a bit cranky. We used to call this our Least Anticipated Films feature, but this year our New Year's resolution was to be a tiny bit more positive. Frankly, the sentiment applies, but this is also the leftover films of 2011 we just don't know what to do with. Many of them look abysmal, some of us glass-half-full Playlist types (yes, there are a few among us) think, "hey, that picture might not be so bad," while other members of the group stare in shock that such an idea could be possibly floated. So yes, basically these are the films that we don't hold out too much hope, the ones we think look downright cheap and dreadful, made only to turn a buck and the occasional few that look half-decent (and may just not have fit in the character count of our Escapist Features, sue us) --- though before you bombard our comments section, please actually read what we have to say about these films before assuming we're completely writing them off. Also, while it wasn't intentional, some of us do find it amusing that most of the cast of "Twilight" fill these halls. Another trend we just realized? Leighton Meester pretty much means box-office poison (poor cute, "Gossip Girl"). Also, Hollywood seems to be banking on the mostly unknown Alex Pettyfer, but he truly looks like a charisma-free zone of blandness. Onwards to 2011, though, not necessarily upwards in this case....
