With the awards season in full swing, and the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival coming up, it's easy to forget that sometimes you just want to sit back with a big tub of popcorn, more soda than is legal in New York City and go a thrill ride. These three upcoming movies will hope to accomplish that, and we have some new images to get you ready for what's to come.

It's virtually unheard of for a series to peak with its fifth installment, but by quite some distance, 2011's "Fast Five" turned out to be the most entertaining of the illegal-road-race franchise (which now has very little to do with road racing). Director Justin Lin, in his third film of the series, cracked the secret that time around, partly by adding the charisma of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to the cast as a supercop tracking down fugitive speed freaks Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, and the film became a monster worldwide hit, by far the biggest of the five.

Director Gareth Evans’ Indonesian action-thriller “The Raid” has only been in the pop culture atmosphere for barely year, yet that seems like enough time for Hollywood to start plucking the film’s top talent to work on their own projects. Evans has been working on his English language debut and is also set to be “Breaking The Bank” with a heist picture over at Universal, all after he finishes “The Raid” sequel “Berandal”. Meanwhile, main "The Raid" ass-kicker Iko Uwais has just nabbed a part in Keanu Reeves' "Man Of Tai Chi." Now, Universal is looking to tap another player in “The Raid” army, whose profile will certainly gain a significant upgrade.

Rev your engines, folks, because in case you forgot, Vin Diesel and his buddies are bringing back the smell of exhaust and Axe body spray to theaters with "Fast & Furious 6." And the movie that's currently in production has added a young fresh face to kick some ass alongside the boys.

Over the past few days rumors have been flying wildly around the web that Universal, impressed with Rihanna's performance in "Battleship," were going to slot her in the villain role in the brewing "Fast & Furious 6." The reports originated from the U.K.'s The Sun paper -- a red flag if there ever was one -- and quickly spread like wildfire. We reached out to reps to see if this was accurate, but while they didn't offer a straight denial, from what we we gather, nothing was certain. And whether it was true or not that the singer was being courted, a much more reliable source is putting forth a much different name.

Looks like "Fast & Furious 6" is getting fuel injected with some kick-ass estrosgen. With Gina Carano joining the pic last week and Rihanna being rumored to play the villain (while reps stay noticeably mum, though not denying anything), a familiar female face is returning to the gearhead series.

This past week saw Hollywood types descend on Las Vegas -- not for a "Hangover" reboot, but for the annual CinemaCon trade show, which sees all the studios showing off their upcoming wares for exhibitors and members of the press. And this year was a big one, with footage from "The Dark Knight Rises," "The Hobbit," "Les Miserables," "Prometheus," "The Great Gatsby" and many, many more among the headliners.

While Jason Statham had better things to do than join the amped up "Fast & Furious" franchise, we have to say this bit of casting is a bit more inspired anyway.

Way back last fall, right around the time there was rumors that Paramount wanted him for their inevitable "Transformers" sequel(s), it was revealed that Jason Statham was the latest piece of man meat being sought to join the sweaty, armpit-stained cast of "Fast Six." But for fans hoping for a hot man sandwich of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, those dreams have been shattered.

Does your franchise need a boost of charisma and talent? Hire Dwayne Johnson. The wrestler-turned-action hero made his presence known in last year's "Fast Five," which also turned out to be the biggest (and most enjoyable, by most accounts) entry in the series, spawning talk that Universal was gonna double up on the follow-ups, with "Fast Six" and "Fast Seven" to shoot back-to-back to deliver one, big linked story. Well, for all you gear heads, the good news is that the sequel is indeed happening, but alas it seems you'll only be getting one more movie for now.
