Paul Walker, Fast And Furious 6
Just stopping short of Tupac-like holographics, in March it was reported that CGI and digital effect trickery would be employed to complete “Fast & Furious 7.” Series star Paul Walker passed away late last year, sending the production into a tailspin.

Fast & Furious Paul Walker
If they can use holograms to get Tupac back on stage to perform, we suppose anything is possible. So perhaps it isn't a surprise that Universal is holding the gears together on their lucrative "Fast & Furious" franchise by using a bit of digital trickery to keep one of the key cast members in the rotation.

While there was some talk of scrapping and restarting "Fast & Furious 7" following the tragic death of franchise star Paul Walker, when Universal announced the new 2015 release date for the film, the press release quietly emphasized that "Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead the returning cast." So how will they do it?

Fast & Furious 7
Given that they were already on a tight schedule to meet a 2014 release date prior to Paul Walker's death, it's not a surprise that Universal is now giving themselves a bit more breathing room to complete "Fast & Furious 7."

The death of Paul Walker — an obviously key figure in the mega-sequel (and franchise) "Fast & Furious 7" — makes the future of the movie and series completely unclear. Production on the James Wan directed movie was supposed to continue this week in Atlanta following the Thanksgiving holiday, and additional filming with the entire cast in Abu Dhabi in January. Clearly, things are in flux and while this past weekend a conference call between suits and director tried to figure out how they salvage the film and honor the memory of Walker, it seems everyone is still weighing their options. But until then the set has been cleared.

Hours Paul Walker
At only 40 years old, and with a bright future still very much ahead of him, Hollywood is still reeling from the death of Paul Walker over the holiday weekend. While his films weren't exactly Oscar contenders, the actor had a devoted following of fans, and by any account, he was one of the nicest, most selfless guys in the industry. But his passing does leave a question mark hovering over one of the biggest franchises in the world right now, and key part of Universal's slate.

Insidious 2, James Wan
A dizzying intersection of three films trails director James Wan as he meets us at the Los Angeles press junket for “Insidious: Chapter 2,” the sequel to his and writer/actor Leigh Whannell’s 2011 hit. Just two weeks prior, he was here promoting “The Conjuring,” and now, he’s battling jet-lag from his time away prepping “Fast and Furious 7” in Atlanta. “I am knee deep in it,” he says of the latest in Universal’s key franchise. “I'm working on it non-stop, not getting any sleep, and yet I'm still wrapping up these [two films] too. My head is exploding.”
