Bigger things are just around the corner for "Like Crazy" star Felicty Jones. With the period-based vibrator comedy "Hysteria" on the way to theaters, and her untitled movie with Drake Doremus sure to arrive at the festival circuit later this year, her star is only going to continue to rise. And later on in 2012, she'll team up with Ralph Fiennes for "The Invisible Woman." But coming first is another festival apperance by the actress, this time at Tribeca with her latest effort, "Cheerful Weather For A Wedding."

Well folks, the first batch of nominees this awards season have been revealed, with the Gotham Independent Film Award nominations landing this morning, giving an early peek at what will likely be some strong contenders down the line. Bear in mind, the Gotham Awards have little bearing on the eventual Oscar nods with only last year's Best Feature winner "Winter's Bone" factoring into the proceedings at the Kodak Theater. However, it does represent a good chunk of what you might see at the Independent Spirit Awards later in the year and if anything, these nominations confirm that Fox Searchlight is going to have another banner year on the statue circuit.

The name might still only be vaguely familiar, but 2011 is Felicity Jones' year. She's been working for some time, lighting up the likes of "Brideshead Revisited," "Cheri" and "Cemetery Junction," but she got the year off to a killer start by picking up Best Actress at Sundance for her turn in Drake Doremus' "Like Crazy," while the rom-com "Chalet Girl" was something of a sleeper hit in the U.K in the spring. She's got plenty more on the way, including another project with Doremus that'll film shortly, but first along is another home grown picture, the coming-of-age tale "Albatross," and The Guardian just premiered the film's trailer.

Sundance may be located in the middle-of-nowhere Utah, be a pain the ass to get to and be ridiculous expensive but there is a reason every budding filmmaker dreams of taking the journey -- it can make (or break) your career. For Drake Doremus, he saw everything change with his low key long-distance romance tale "Like Crazy." After directing three little seen features, Doremus soon found himself as the center of attention with the picture earning strong reviews, great buzz for the performances by Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones and walked away from the festival with a distribution deal with Paramount. And oh yeah, he also took home a Grand Jury Prize for his film as well. Not bad. Well, he's riding that wave into his next effort and he's lined up a solid cast to work with.

Carey Mulligan, Felicity Jones, Abbie Cornish & Imogen Poots In Contention For Female LeadHis Lord Voldemort might *spoiler* have finally met his end this weekend in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two," but Ralph Fiennes isn't hanging about: he's playing an unknown role in Sam Mendes' "Bond 23," and he's in rehearsal to play Prospero in "The Tempest" on stage in London. But the thespian isn't just sticking to acting: his directorial debut, "Coriolanus," picked up strong reviews at the Berlin Film Festival at the start of the year, and will hit theaters in the fall, and the actor's now planning another venture behind the camera that will shoot next year.

For smaller independent producers, the problem with your long-atttached star suddenly generating new heat is that they're flooded with new offers; bigger films, more tempting films. As such, it can be hard to keep their interest -- Carey Mulligan, for instance, dropped out of British indie "This Beautiful Fantastic" in favor of "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" after "An Education" blew up. That same issue now faces Iain Softley and his psychodrama "Trap for Cinderella."
