Although we have broadened our horizons somewhat, the intersection of music and film is something still very much important to us. To that end, we were very excited to hear news that two of our favorite composers would be tackling new projects.

One of the surprise hits of the year was this summer’s cheap Ethan Hawke-starring horror movie “The Purge,” and with the $3 million-budgeted film making nearly $90 million worldwide, you better believe Universal wants a re-up.

This is what's known as "appealing to international markets." While few outside the blogosphere in North America know what a Rita Ora is (a new "Star Wars" character?), in the U.K. she's a chart topping pop singer and tabloid regular. And so, in a blockbuster sexytime movie starring two people most people never heard of, this might help get the word out abroad.

Fifty Shades Of Grey, First Look
The famed/dreaded NC-17 may be seen as a curse for studio films, but there's no doubt that the rarely used rating (which is usually appealed or finds the filmmakers editing their movie to get an R) certainly makes things a bit difficult for the movies that go out with that tag. At least as far as studio pictures go, marketing and screening a NC-17 rated movie becomes harder as some theater chains and mainstream advertisers in print and media won't run campaigns for those films. But dreaming doesn't cost anything and that's what one producer is doing for a highly anticipated, upcoming film.

Fifty Shades Of Grey, First Look
There is probably an easy joke here about how good things come (ha) to those who wait, and it's never good to rush into bed or something, but it looks like Universal and Focus Features have decided to give "Fifty Shades Of Grey" the space it needs to do it right (sorry). So for those of you who were looking to go the sex room of your local multiplex next year, you'll have to hold on just a bit longer (hardy har har).

Fifty Shades Of Grey Victor Rasuk
Even with a new writer polishing the script, and a production start that has been pushed back a month, Universal and Focus Features are still feeling good and aroused about "Fifty Shades Of Grey." Casting continues for the erotica drama, with another name being strapped on for next summer's sexytime offering.

As the story/rumors go, before he ultimately bailed on "Fifty Shades of Grey," Charlie Hunnam suggested tweaks and fixes to the Kelly Marcel script for the erotica drama. Apparently, his feedback was well received until he started asking for script approval, and so it goes, he wound up leaving the project. But it seems his legacy was in spurring more work on the screenplay. Patrick Marber ("Closer," "Notes On A Scandal") was brought in to try and get things ready to shoot and now another writer has been hired to get this all locked up, so to speak.

So, next summer Universal is going to try and make Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson "happen" in the sexytimes blockbuster "Fifty Shades Of Grey." Whether or not the pop cultural phenomenon will cross over into a big screen hit remains to be seen. This writer wonders if people really want to share their kinks collectively at the multiplex, but I digress. Either way it's happening and more actors are joining.

Jamie Dornan
"I have had some family stuff going on so just trying to stay focused and stay positive and keep trying to do a good job at work and be with my family and stay positive," Charlie Hunnam said evasively late last week and that was about the closest anyone will get to hearing why the "Sons Of Anarchy" star dropped out of "Fifty Shades Of Grey." No matter, a replacement has been found. Among the original list of contenders revealed just a few days after Hunnam dropped out of Universal's project, ABC's "Once Upon A Time" star Jamie Dornan has nabbed the coveted role of Christian Grey.
