While Anchor Bay Nab Starry Channing Tatum-Led Ensemble Drama 'Ten Year'For a while, we were starting to wonder if we'd dreamed the Will Ferrell comedy "Casa De Mi Padre." On almost no one's radar before the start of this year, a surprise trailer for the project, a Spanish-language film co-starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, debuted back in the spring, but nothing's been heard from the film since, and we had to double check our archives to make sure it was a real thing, and not something that we'd imagined after a night with too many telenovelas and too much meth.

With "Immortals" landing next week, "Wrath of the Titans" next spring and "300: Battle of Artemisia" arriving the year after that, you'd think that might be enough buff dudes yelling for the next little while. But apparently not, as Warner Bros. is banking on the fact you're gonna want to see more mythological figures clanging swords or whatever.

Warner Bros. Revives Harper Franchise Made Famous By Paul Newman With 'The Galton Case'

While 7,772 petitioners are still waiting for that “Veronica Mars” movie (Warner Bros. is apparently just going to ignore $80,000 in potential box office receipts), Joel Silver is moving on with his life by producing “The Galton Case,” a Ross Macdonald mystery novel about private detective Lew Archer. 'Galton' is the eighth book in a series of novels about Archer. Why not start with any of the first seven tomes? It’s either that one through seven are really bad, or the eighth one is just that good. Regardless, Warner Bros. has acquired rights to the entire series (maybe they’ll work their way backwards), and they’re hoping to adapt the novels into an “elevated noir franchise” aka “The Spirit.”

Let's face it, Summit Entertainment continues to make films because of the insane profits from the "Twilight" franchise. The three films already released from the franchise have grossed a combined $1.8 billion worldwide from theatrical releases alone, and that doesn't include DVD and all the film licensing the company also has a meaty stake in. The success of the series showed a massive untapped potential in teenagers and the young adult audience (that wasn't the "Harry Potter" crowd) and studios took notice immediately. While, in the three years that have passed (the first film was released in 2008), not one studio has released a viable competitor or contender to usurp the "Twilight" throne, but it's not for a lack of trying.

Beautiful Trailer, Bland Poster Debut For 3D Stop-Motion Animated ‘ParaNorman’

2011 hasn’t exactly been an exceptional year for animated films. Besides this spring’s deliciously strange “Rango” and this summer’s gorgeous, supple “Winnie the Pooh,” there hasn’t been a whole lot to fawn over, animation-wise. (When Pixar unloads a colossal letdown like “Cars 2,” you know the medium is having an “off year.”) Thankfully, 2012 is poised to be an embarrassment of riches, with new movies from proven studios like Blue Sky (“Ice Age: Continental Drift”), Illumination ("The Lorax"), Disney ("Wreck-It Ralph" and Tim Burton's "Frankenweenie") Aardman (“The Pirates! Band of Misfits”) and the beloved Studio Ghibli (“The Secret World of Arriety”), as well as a brand-new Pixar property (“Brave,” plus the heavily Pixar-associated live action hybrid “John Carter”) and the debut features from children’s illustrator William Joyce (DreamWorks’ “Rise of the Guardians”) and super-genius animator Genndy Tarkovsky (Sony’s “Hotel Transylvania”). Also being released next year is “ParaNorman,” the new 3D stop-motion film from Laika, the Portland, Oregon-based animation studio that gave us the wonderful “Coraline” back in 2009, and judging by the jaw-dropping new trailer, it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

On Friday morning, writer-director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau hosted a screening of footage from the upcoming 3D rerelease of “Titanic,” Cameron’s 1997 Academy Award winner and box office record-setter. After screening 18 minutes or so of the film, which was painstakingly converted into 3D over a 60-week period, Cameron and Landau fielded questions from the audience and discussed the expansion of 3D into both the future and the past of the moviemaking industry.
