The Family Robert De Niro
Robert De Niro is getting back in the family, and no, we don't mean another 'Fockers' movie. Rather, he's getting back in the organized family way, once again entering the game of legitimate business dealings, and starring in the latest from Luc Besson, "The Family" (which you probably knew about under it's previous title "Malavita"). For both director and star, they've had a patchy last few years, with both highlights ("Silver Linings Playbook" and "Stone" for De Niro) and lowlights (wait, what was the last good movie Besson directed?). Can they form a power pairing here?

Aubrey Plaza, Johnny Simmons and Donald Glover in The To Do List
What's on your to do list this summer? Maybe get a job, ask that girl or guy out who works at that store downtown and perhaps spend some long weekends with some friends. Either way, we're betting your list isn't quite the same as Brandy's in "The To Do List." Unless handjobs are an essential part of your summer plans....

So, should we give up on Mary Harron ever matching the accomplishment of her first two features, "I Shot Andy Warhol" and "American Psycho"? Because since then, it's been mostly a downward trajectory with lots of TV work, the disappointing "The Notorious Bettie Page" and the forgotten (and not very well received) vampire flick "The Moth Diaries." And now in what must be a career nadir, Harron has retreated to Lifetime to crank out one of their cheapie biopics, "The Anna Nicole Story," ripped from the headlines of six years ago.

Short Term 12, Brie Larson
Here's yet another reminder that this summer, there are more things beyond the supersized jumbo popcorn, slushy and nachos offerings at the multiplex. Looking for something with a bit nuance, a little bit of heart, with some real characters and story? Look no further than "Short Term 12," the tender dramedy starring Brie Larson. And yes, we are quoted within so take it as extra stamp of approval for this picture.

Closed Circuit
It's going to be a long summer of explosions, CGI and dick jokes, as your stomach sours from too much buttery popcorn and your brain hurts from endless 3D spectacles. But capping off the season will be a movie that will hopefully have some smarts, and it at least promises some strong talent in a compelling picture.

Hugh Jackman, Prisoners
It was mooted as one of Hollywood script's circa 2009 in fact it landed at the top of the BlackList pile that year. Names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Bryan Singer, Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale were thrown around in several different versions, but for whatever reason the film never quite came together. However, one actor stayed the course. Hugh Jackman was set to play the lead in 2010 and cut to a few years later, the actor was game and ready to play the role in the newest iteration.

This Is The End
It's either some brass balls or just a flat out bad decision, but with Sony positioning Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's let's-make-a-movie-with-our-friends effort "This Is The End" for the same weekend on "Man Of Steel," they are essentially hoping that many folks will forgo Superman or some dumb laughs. Granted, it drops on the Wednesday so the comedy will a slight head start, but will it build enough steam to make a decent counter-programming choice?

The common complaint about sequels that don't work is that they merely carbon copy the first successful movie with less satisfying results. But "Cars" aside, Pixar has shown they can up their game each time out within a series, at least as far as "Toy Story" goes. But with "Monsters University," instead of going forward, they're going back to where it all began. But in doing so, can they recreate the magic that was "Monsters Inc."?

Machete Kills Danny Trejo Demian Bichir
From Sofia Vergara shooting bullets out of her top to the presence of Lady Gaga, Robert Rodriguez isn't kidding around with "Machete Kills," another run at the grindhouse with Danny Trejo. And after being partially leaked last week, the official trailer is now here, and he isn't changing up the format too much it seems, even if it's even more star-packed than last time around.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
Damn, we keep forgetting this movie exists or is even coming to theaters, mostly because we're not nine years old. But alas, the sequel "Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters" is on the way and a new trailer is here to convince this story of looking for magical fabric is going to be one you'll want to spend your hard earned money on.
