If any of the major studios had the brass balls to take on "Behind The Candelabra," we think Michael Douglas probably would've been a no brainer as an Oscar contender, particularly judging by this new trailer unveiled over at The Guardian. It's a totally transformative performance and it looks like a total blast. While Douglas stuck with the project -- put on hold as he battled cancer and revived once he recovered -- and was open to all challenges the script brought with it, he did have his limits.

What if you could jump back through time to say the perfect line, make a better first impression or perform better in the sack? That's the ambitious central premise of "About Time," the latest from "Love Actually" writer/director Richard Curtis, that takes the traditional rom-com and adds a little does of time travel in for good measures. Does it work? Well, let's take a look at the first trailer...

As I Lay Dying
Tackling an adaptation of a William Faulkner novel, featuring no less than fifteen different characters, in a narrative that doesn't lend itself easily to a cinematic interpretation would be a challenge for anybody. But not everybody is James Franco. In the past year, he's dropped a documentary about a porn site and another inspired by deleted scenes from William Friedkin's "Cruising," so "As I Lay Dying" is right in his wheelhouse of ambitious fare. The fact that it has been included in the Cannes Film Festival lineup as part of the Un Certain Regard slate appears to mean he's done his job and pulled it off, and now you can judge for yourself.

Behind The Candelabra
Serving as the gaudy, bejeweled finale to Steven Soderbergh’s film career (for now), Liberace biopic “Behind the Candelabra” cemented itself as one to watch from the minute the director announced it. A trailer finally dropped for the HBO production last month and blew us away, and now a new look from across the pond has offered several more reasons to get excited.

August: Osage County' Starring Meryl Streep
On paper, "August: Osage County" looks like a no-brainer awards season behemoth. Based on prize-winning source material? Check. All-star cast? Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Chris Cooper, Sam Shepard, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Ewan McGregor, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney and Margo Martindale...so hell yes. An exciting director? John Wells. Okay, so two out of three ain't bad. The end result? Well...

Gravity, Sandra Bullock (skip)
Perhaps a recap of the journey we've been on with "Gravity" is in order. Hell, just getting a cast in order is a story itself with Robert Downey Jr. and Angelina Jolie attached at various points, and after the latter left, a frantic search geared up to find a replacement for take the lead with Naomi Watts, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Marion Cotillard, Carey Mulligan, Sienna Miller, Abbie Cornish, Rebecca Hall, Olivia Wilde and Blake Lively all being rumored/considered/wishlisted before Sandra Bullock signed on, followed shortly by George Clooney.

If you're wondering what a geek-gasm looks like, you should probably hit your social media networks right now. Marvel, having already conquered the multiplex and set to unleash their power on the small screen with "Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.," are now seeing what the animated world can do for them. First announced at Comic-Con last year, Disney Animation is tackling "Big Hero 6," another Marvel superteam of heroes, though not as well known as The Avengers. But that will likely not matter one iota if this footage is anything go by.

Cannes: New Pics & Trailer For Takashi Miike's Competition Contender 'Shield Of Straw'

Over the course of his career, Takashi Miike has largely been known for his gonzo, hyper-violent yakuza flicks, candy colored and bonkers kids movies and a work ethic that outpaces James Franco. But a contender for the Palme d'Or? Indeed, back in 2011 his sleepy "Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai" quietly got a competition slot and this year, so too does he police procedural "Shield Of Straw." Can it realistically be a player against folks like Alexander Payne, Asghar Farhadi, The Coen Brothers, Steven Soderbergh, Roman Polanski and others?
