300
"This is Sparta!" was the shout heard in cineplexes around the world in 2006 when Zack Snyder and dozens of buffed, bronzed and oiled dudes arrived with "300." The movie was a massive hit, bringing in over $400 million worldwide, and spawned Hollywood's infatuation with CGI and barechested men in movies ("Immortals," "Pompeii," "The Legend Of Hercules," etc.). And now with the "300: Rise Of An Empire" coming, ScreenJunkies is looking back at the movie that started it all.

Godzilla
"The great thing with a project like 'Godzilla' is that when you’re doing a movie like this that involves a monster that’s so beloved, you suddenly get access to the greatest visual artists out there working today. So I was very lucky in terms of that," director Gareth Edwards told Bloody Disgusting last summer. "...in terms of designing 'Godzilla,' we spent about an entire year just working on that aspect alone. You never quite feel like you have enough time but I wouldn’t change a single thing with the design. I’m so incredibly happy with it."

The Protector 2
Back in 2003, Tony Jaa was the biggest name in punching things, thanks to the release of “Ong Bak,” the Thai martial-arts film that, at the time, provoked a similar reaction to “The Raid,” only set in Bangkok instead of Jakarta. “Ong Bak 2” didn't quite pan out so well, however, and although Jaa is set for a role in “Fast & Furious 7” he's never broken out in the west. Nor has Prachya Pinkaew, who made “Ong Bak” and who also directed Jaa in “The Protector,” which came out stateside (in a somewhat cut-down version – thanks, Harvey) in 2006.

Muppets Again
2011's "The Muppets" arrived on a wave of nostalgia and some very savvy marketing, that converged into a final product that was a big ball of fun (remember those parody trailers?). This time around, that wistful feeling has faded, the marketing has been more traditional and Disney sort of just expects you to show up.

Noah, Aronofsky
When it rains, it pours, except if you're "Noah" when rain means the imminent destruction of the planet, and that your only hope for survival is an ark you built yourself and populated with a pair of every animal on Earth. Was "Noah" the first hoarding story?

Silicon Valley
Earlier today it was revealed that producer Scott Rudin was bringing the nerd battle between Sega and Nintendo to the big screen with "Console Wars," roping in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to write and direct. If you want your fill of nerds and technology a little bit quicker, Rudin and HBO have a fix on the way with "Silicon Valley," but the most important name behind it is this one: Mike Judge.

Amazing Spider-Man 2
Back in 2012 when "The Amazing Spider-Man" was gearing up to hit theaters, the extent of Sony's marketing plan was revealed when someone went through all the trailers and clips that dropped in advance of the film, and put together a 25-minute reel of footage. So at this point, our only question is by which factor the advance spill of material for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will exceed its predecessor.

So, is Ti West's "The Sacrament" a found footage movie or a mockumentary? In fact, it's neither. "This is an after the fact made documentary. It’s like a Christopher Guest movie if you will," the director told Crave Online last fall. "It’s just very dark, and I don’t think anyone’s looked at Christopher Guest’s career and been like, 'Oh, found footage.' It’s always been like these weird mockumentaries, but mockumentary sounds good for comedy and not for anything else. So it’s just hard to label it necessarily but to me, having a tough time labeling something generally means something’s interesting."

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
When Will Ferrell and Adam McKay get together, they shoot a lot of material. And as fans of "Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy" already know, there was so much leftover material from the making of the comedy, the flimmakers were able to stitch together an entirely new movie, "Wake Up, Ron Burgudy: The Lost Movie," which was included as a DVD extra for the film. And, they've pretty much done the same thing again.

In The Blood Poster
It has been three years since MMA star Gina Carano stepped out of the ring and kicked ass on the big screen, with her first leading role in Steven Soderbergh's "Haywire." Since then, she hasn't rushed into the movie biz, only banking a role in "Fast & Furious 6" in the interim. But now she's back in leading lady for with "In The Blood" and the first trailer is here.
