It was inevitable that at some point, another group of dudes would try and replicate the easy, raunchy camaraderie of the Apatow gang (i.e. everyone who was in "The Is the End"). And while we really like the dudes in "That Awkward Moment," this attempt at being just like that relatable bunch of bros doesn't quite work, though that may be because underneath all the supposed attitude is a rom-com in waiting.

Another film that was tipped as a possible late entry into the awards season thicket, the respectful if rather quiet premiere of "Belle" last month at the Toronto International Film Festival put any of those plans on hold. Instead, a release next spring is in the works, but Fox Searchlight will use the limited release of "12 Years A Slave" this weekend to help get the word out.

So... when did Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan become Jason Bourne? Maybe we missed the meeting or memo, but from what we remember of past movies featuring the character, he wasn't quite doing his job this way. We suppose that's what reboots are for. Bringing new characters into contemporary times, though in this case it seems that process has made things a bit more generic.

Full disclosure: Benjamin Shearn is a former contributor to The Playlist, so yes, this exclusive trailer belongs to someone who used to write for us. That being said, it seems we' re lucky enough to have some great talent pass through our doors (see Christopher Bell's trailer for "The Winds That Scatter"), and "Silk" is certainly something that grabbed our attention.

Hercules: The Legend Begins Kellan Lutz
What do you get when you combine "300" + "Immortals" + "Gladiator" + Kellan Lutz + a very meager budget? Well, you get "Hercules: The Legend Begins," and the results aren't pretty.

We're living in a time where there are some TV shows that we're looking forward to as much, and perhaps more, than many movies. And considering the talent that's crossing over to the small screen, and the freedom to tell provocative, rich stories that wouldn't work or be given the space to breathe in the studio system, perhaps it's not such a surprise. And certainly, "True Detective" is one show that's high on our Must Watch list for 2014 (and perhaps it'll take the place of "Breaking Bad" for addictive viewing).

Monuments Men
The conversation until now has positioned George Clooney's "Monuments Men" as an "Ocean's Eleven"-esque WWII caper, but not a serious Oscar contender. But that talk will likely change with the arrival of the newest trailer for the film, one that still has the lighter tone of the first teaser, but imbues with some serious elements.

So, you know in "Rushmore" how Max Fisher puts on those ambitious, yet awesomely amateur plays, clearly based on '70s cinema? What if there was a whole comedy series that essentially took that approach and boosted it a few notches? That seems to be the only way to begin describing "The Spoils Of Babylon," Will Ferrell's outrageously over-the-top IFC series that riffs awesomely hard on the sweeping soap operas and dramas of the yore.

Without any festival appearance or advance screenings for press, David O. Russell's "American Hustle" remains the biggest, most exciting mystery of the fall movie season. Awards player or chewy piece of entertainment? Maybe it's both?

Everything remains cryptic and speculative around the forthcoming "Star Wars: Episode 7," but today comes an official piece of nostalgia via the interwebs. Apropos of nothing really (unless there is some random anniversary we don't know about), the official YouTube channel for the mega-franchise has dropped the 1976 teaser trailer for "Star Wars." And let's just say, in the decades since, Lucasfilm's marketing has greatly improved.
