Getting a film out in the world is a tough business, but for writer/director Mark Nistico, the effort behind his feature debut "Blue Collar Boys" has paid off with some recognition. Traveling the festival circuit, the movie earned Best Picture (Micro Budget) at the Toronto Independent Film Festival, as well as Best Screenplay at the Hoboken Film Festival. And while it won't be getting a nationwide release, it may be one to pay attention to if it screens near you.

Not many directors have an Oscar before their first feature is released, but playwright-turned-filmmaker Martin McDonagh managed the trick by picking up the Best Short prize for his film "Six Shooter." And fortunately, his feature follow-up, "In Bruges," was no disappointment; a soulful, foul-mouthed comedy that helped to revitalize Colin Farrell's career, it proved something of a sleeper hit a few years back, picking up some great reviews.

Mental disability, divorce, first boyfriends, teen pregnancy, bullying....yes, there is a lot going on in "Broken." And while the first trailer for the film does at least highlight the strong performances from the cast, it's too bad it's in service of a picture that doesn't quite do their work justice.

Well, not everything that hits the festival circuit is going to be a winner, and some may have a steeper hill to climb to get some positive attention. Judging by the first trailer for "Inescapable," that may be the case for this film. Playing like an arthouse/indie "Taken," the first glimpse and handful of promo pics certainly suggest a movie that owes a bit of a nod to Liam Neeson.

You have to hand it to David Ayer, he has found his niche and he’s working it hard. From “Training Day” to films like “The Fast And The Furious,” “Harsh Times” and “Street Kings” he’s worked steadily in the urban crime genre, mostly following cops with less than ethical methods. A new red band trailer has dropped, showing his latest entry into the genre, the Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña-starring “End of Watch.”

"There’s no melodrama here, just a moving and totally engrossing story of two men in love," is how our man on the ground at Sundance described "Keep The Lights On." And for the rest of us who have yet to catch up with the movie, those words seem to be spot on when viewing the trailer for the upcoming film.

Literary adaptations are always a hot item in the fall season when more serious films come out to play, and that's no different in 2012. With "Les Miserables" (based on a book, turned into a stage musical and now a movie), "Anna Karenina" and "Life of Pi" all expected to make big waves in the coming months, one more film will be hoping to earn some attention....at least on the festival circuit.

"The Transporter" films were never the most highly accomplished of cinematic endeavors, but they cruised along on the charm of Jason Statham and a basic respect for cutting decent action sequences. However, as the movie now makes the transition to television, even those two factors -- a compelling lead and engaging action -- seem to be missing in what looks like an amateur hour show judging by the first trailer.
