And by the time the lights came up after the first screening, everyone not only knew his name, but the buzz was deafening. The unrelenting action flick quickly became a cult fave, and even though it only topped $4 million worldwide, the enthusiasm was enough to get a sequel greenlit. And so here we are with the first trailer for "The Raid 2: Berandal," so strap in.

You really can't keep a good Steven Soderbergh down. Supposedly retired from directing after “Behind The Candelabra”, the hyperactive movie-maker is using his time off to lend his name to worthy cinematic projects, and none worthier than “Visitors,” which is to be “presented by” Soderbergh, and for which a new trailer has arrived below.

The sun and surf of California has long provided a cinematic backdrop to drugs, sex and hedonistic excess; behind the beautiful coastline of the Golden State often lies darker secrets. It's in that spirit that "California Scheming" unfolds, and today we have the exclusive red band trailer for the upcoming film.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug
Familiar? More of the same? Does it matter? When it comes to "The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug," part of a billion dollar franchise that will forever spin money into the Middle Earth bank accounts for Warner Bros., it's probably best not to rock the boat too hard. Simply put, all the team has to do is sell an epic adventure, and today they're doing just that.

Chavez Micheal Pena
Tremendously talented, but also unfortunately underrated, Michael Peña is the kind of presence we always enjoy in a movie, but he's usually found in a supporting role. But thankfully, Diego Luna has recognized that the actor has more than enough skill and charisma to carry a picture, and he's doing just that in his biopic "Cesar Chavez: An American Hero." And now, we have a taste of how it turned out in the first trailer for the film.

Next door neighbors can be a source of joy, new friends found thanks to the convenience of addresses, who find their way into the fabric of your life. But they can also be nuisances, the kind of people you'd want to wash out of the fabric of your life. But in the upcoming thriller "7E," they may hold the key to a mystery...

Only Lovers Left Alive
From Cannes to Toronto to New York to London, as Jim Jarmusch's elegant and beautiful "Only Lovers Left Alive" has cruised the festival circuit, it has won over the hearts of various Playlist members at each stop along the way. It's easily his best film since "Dead Man" (though I'm one of the few who adores "The Limits Of Control") and will undoubtedly rank among his finest accomplishments. And while it's a hard movie to cut down to trailer form, this new international spot does a pretty nice job.

Climate change. Do you believe in it? You should, you know. But if you don't, mind if I ask if James Cameron telling you it's real would change your opinion? Or Matt Damon? Or Jessica Alba? Or Ian Somerhalder? These are not hypothetical questions, not any more, much like “hey, I wonder what happens if a massive hurricane hits New York City?” isn't a hypothetical question any more. But anything Al Gore can do, James Cameron, Jerry Weintraub and Arnold Schwarznegger can do better, on Showtime, with inexplicable sequences of battleships and Lesley Stahl looking at a lake and saying, “This is a lake?”
