While we pointed out yesterday that Megan Ellison's ventures with auteurs and non-blockbuster films have yet to produce a breakout hit, we're certainly glad that she isn't throwing in the towel. The producer and her Annapurna Pictures are behind "Capote" and "Moneyball" director Bennett Miller's upcoming "Foxcatcher," and it's being poised for awards season attention.

After earning the attention of the Academy with his first two features, “Capote” and “Moneyball,” you wouldn’t bet against Bennett Miller’s next feature “Foxcatcher” being in line for more awards when it surfaces, especially given the cast that he’s beginning to line up. Already on board are Mark Ruffalo, Steve Carell, Sienna Miller and Channing Tatum, and they’ll now be joined by '80s icon Anthony Michael Hall in hoping that Bennett Miller can "do a Jonah Hill" for his career too.

While it seems the big and pieces for this one have been coming together forever, we're just glad Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher" is still happening. And after lining up an impressive trio of bros in Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo, the film is now adding a talented actress into the mix.

When Mark Ruffalo was announced as the successor to Ed Norton’s Hulk/Bruce Banner for “The Avengers,” many eyebrows were raised and, in the case of the fanboys, many wondered if the actor known for his acclaimed work in indie dramas could do the job. However, if there’s one thing Ruffalo has proven over the years, it’s his versatility as an actor. And at “The Avengers” World Premiere in Hollywood Wednesday, fans appeared largely pleased with Ruffalo’s turn as the big green lug.

The saying goes that you gotta keep your eyes on the prize, and for director Bennett Miller that has certainly been true for "Foxcatcher." The long developing project was one he had hoped to tackle after "Capote," but he wound up helming last year's Best Picture nominee "Moneyball" instead. Not bad as far as consolation prizes go. But with the heat off that, he's been re-building the film. Last fall, Steve Carell and Channing Tatum both came on board, and now, an indie veteran is lining up for what is turning out to be a very promising cast.

We've said it before, and we'll say it again -- Channing Tatum is nothing if not determined. The actor who launched to fame with "Step Up" has eagerly taken on any role he can just to work with a top shelf director. The roster of talent he has spent time with on set -- Kimberly Peirce, Michael Mann, Ron Howard, Kevin Macdonald, Steven Soderbergh (x2) -- speaks for itself. As a producer, he's throwing his weight around on upcoming films like "Ten Year," "21 Jump Street" and "Magic Mike," but he's continuing to seek out opportunities to grow as an actor. His physique doesn't allow him a chameleon presence on screen, but his quest to take on strong dramatic material may have found him the perfect middle ground—a role where his bulk is part of the territory.

First, we just need to get something off our chest. It's an absolute crime that with his run on the "The Office" now over, six-time Emmy nominee Steve Carell didn't win one time for his fantastic turn as the Michael Scott. More than just a bumbling boss, Carell found real depth and heart in Michael Scott that allowed the character to flourish over seven seasons. Okay, mini rant over. Regardless of industry accolades, Carell has used his sitcom success to spread his wings as a dramatic actor in fare like "Dan In Real Life" and "Crazy Stupid Love," however, his greatest challenge as an actor will find him paired up with "Capote" and "Moneyball" director Bennett Miller for what is an ambitious project for them both.
