Nudity, Scientology & More We Learned From The Writer/Director About His Latest Rom-ComThis past weekend, "Friends with Benefits," starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, opened to perhaps a smaller tally than the studio would have wanted, in part because of its striking similarity to January's infinitely dopier "No Strings Attached." Though bearing a similarity in their premise, writer/director Will Gluck's "Friends with Benefits" is the fizzier, funnier and more enjoyable film and it’s a shame that just because it's opening later means people are leaving it behind. We spoke to Will Gluck over the weekend about the comparisons to "No Strings Attached," his approach to the raunchy comedy in which no naughty bits are shown and one risque joke that may have offended a member of the cast.

Marvel is doing the right thing with their superhero productions. They wisely didn’t break the bank after “Iron Man” did a little under $100 million in its opening weekend, instead opting for future adventures within their universe for around the same cost every time. Even with “The Avengers,” said to be the big kahuna in Marvel’s strategy, they kept costs down thanks to cheap multi-film contracts and economic micromanaging.

Ohhhh, Christopher Evans. Is Chris Evans 2011's Crush of the Year? Edgar Wright has a crush on him. GQ has a crush on him. And you know I wave my Chris Evans Crush Flag every day, readers. I mean, I suffered through THE SECOND FANTASTIC FOUR MOVIE FOR HIM. That is how I show my love. I watched "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" in the theaters. Also, I saw "The Losers" in theaters and greatly enjoyed it. Yes, I know that this is The Playlist, but I will admit that here in that forum. I will also admit this: I had a dream last night that I was flying around in a space shuttle above LA with Chris Evans and January Jones. So yes, you could say I am looking forward to "Captain America" A LITTLE BIT. But this weekend brings us a Sophie's Choice: everyone's other universal crush Justin Timberlake has a new movie in theaters! And "Bad Teacher" is still playing! Timberlake in glasses! 2 much Timberlake 2 choose. And he possibly shows his bum in "Friends With Benefits." Even the straight men want to see that! Guys, what are we going to do?! Blah blah there are also some other movies playing if you hate beautiful men.

Yes, there is another movie that "Friends with Benefits," the new R-rated rom-com starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, closely resembles. As seemingly endless articles, rants, and cleverly edited YouTube videos can attest, both the plot (about a pair of young, emotionally distant urban professionals looking for physical satisfaction over romantic completion) is strikingly similar to Ivan Reitman's lame duck comedy "No Strings Attached" (which opened earlier this year and, like 'Friends,' even sports a "Black Swan" ballerina in Natalie Portman). But in a weird way "Friends with Benefits" is reminiscent of another, entirely different movie – Wes Craven's "Scream."

So here's a bit of a roundup of a bunch of (official) footage that's making the rounds.

It's one thing for "No Strings Attached" and "Friends With Benefits" to feature carbon copy concepts, executed nearly exactly the same way, but it's downright eerie when those similarities cross over to the soundtrack as well.

So, just how similar are Ivan Reitman's "No Strings Attached" and Will Gluck's "Friends With Benefits"? Well, at one time they were both titled "Friends With Benefits" and Screen Gems had to do some legal dancing to keep the title, forcing the Natalie Portman/Ashton Kutcher vehicle to change names.

Actually, we've got no beef with the dude, but it seems like Justin Timberlake is going to be everywhere this summer, or more accurately, in two movies within two months.

Yep, another fuckbuddy comedy, "Friends With Benefits," is on the way this time with a more believable pairing in Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.
