Since they figured out how make pictures move, filmmakers have long been fond of using one of the seven deadly sins—greed—as the thematic driving force of their films. From Erich Von Stronheim's compromised masterpiece "Greed" to the slimy dealings of Gordon Gecko in two "Wall Street" movies and beyond, there has been no shortage of characters corrupted by currency. But with the worldwide economy in a more precarious state than ever, and as the term "too big too fail" becomes a rich irony, never before has such subject matter carried so much dramatic potential.

Oh, here's one we totally forgot about. Announced forever ago, the latest from director Costa-Gavras (the man behind "Z" and "Missing") finds him tackling the topical financial world in his latest effort, "Le Capital." And we have to be honest, we're not quite sure what to make of it.

With a release date in France just weeks away, and with "Mood Indigo" looking like a return to form for Michel Gondry, we're still patiently awaiting word of any kind of stateside release. The film still needs a U.S. distributor to step up and bring it to theaters, and hopefully there will be some news soon, but until then we'll just have to look from afar at what we're missing.

To put it quite simply, Michel Gondry's upcoming "Mood Indigo" looks like the return to form many fans have been waiting for. While the director has been off pursuing various other cinematic challenges, it's been a while since we've dropped into the sort of cinematic funhouse he's put up on screen in "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind," "The Science Of Sleep" or even "Be Kind Rewind" (underrated in this writer's opinion). But "Mood Indigo" looks like an utterly charming, whimsical romance and after a gorgeous first trailer in January, a brand new, equally lovely spot has emerged.

While recent efforts like the documentary "The Thorn In The Heart," the superhero blockbuster "The Green Hornet," and indie "The We And The I" have all allowed Michel Gondry to take some detours, it's been a while since we've seen a movie that's, well, Gondry-esque. But it looks like the filmmaker is firmly back in his wheelhouse with "Mood Indigo," which debuted a gorgeous trailer about a month ago. And with its spring release overseas gearing up, some fresh promo material has arrived.

While he was responsible for one of the best films of the '00s with "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," it's been a while since we really fell for something by Michel Gondry. Follow-up "The Science Of Sleep" had its charms, as did documentary "The Thorn In The Heart," but his major films like "Be Kind Rewind," "The Green Hornet" and "The We & the I" have swung between being cripplingly uneven and borderline unwatchable.

First pegged for Vincent Cassel, then lined up for Mathieu Kassovitz, director Costa-Gavras continues to tinker with his lead for "Le Capital," and this might be the most intriguing change yet.

Even though he's currently hard at work on his community-based, lo-fi and sci-fi tinged "The We & The I" inspired by a process book based on "Be Kind Rewind," Gondry has been quietly casting up the movie he'll do after that. Over last summer, two of the biggest names in French cinema -- Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris -- came aboard, and now two more starry bits of talent, who have also been making waves internationally, are joining the cast.
