One thing we most certainly will not be getting from season three of “Game of Thrones” is more episodes, but that’s not to say that HBO’s epic fantasy adaptation won’t be giving fans a significant amount of extra material next year. The third season will be based on the first half (or thereabouts) of George R.R. Martin’s third installment in the Song of Ice and Fire series, "A Storm of Swords," and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have promised that it will be “super-sized.”

More rankings! As Oscar prognosticators puzzle, fret and worry over each top ten list that drops, a few patterns are becoming clear -- firstly, everyone loves "Zero Dark Thirty." And secondly, it looks like outside of a couple of categories, Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" won't be making much of a mark on the Oscar race. And indeed, the AFI shut it out entirely.

Time to break out those drummer jokes! It seems even one of HBO's most celebrated and cherised series deigns itself to the celebrity cameo, and now one of the biggest bands of the world will quietly muscle their presence onto cable TV.

Malin Akerman has had a bit of an unlucky run on the big screen in 2012, with "Wanderlust" and "Rock Of Ages" both underperforming, and the upcoming "Stolen" with Nicolas Cage looking like....well, a Nicolas Cage movie. But she's hoping to cap off the the year on a stronger note. The actress is headed to the small screen for some guest stints on ABC's "Suburgatory." The episodes, set to air near Thanksgiving and Christmas, will find her popping up as the "beautiful and free-spirited singer-songwriter" mother of Tessa (Jane Levy), with whom she hopes to form a relationship and put her troubled past behind her. "Suburgatory" returns in October.

"Game Of Thrones" already has one of the most expansive and impressive casts in the history of television. Essentially picking up the slack that "Harry Potter" left in terms of propping up the British acting industry, the show hasn't just made stars (with names like Richard Madden, Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke coming to serious Hollywood attention), but also given great showcases to veteran character actors -- people like Donald Sumpter, Stephen Dillane and Liam Cunningham have given show-stealing turns over the last two seasons.
