If you've managed to make it through two hours of "New Year's Eve" with the idea that it's about anything more than box office returns and home entertainment bank, Warner Bros., New Line and director Garry Marshall are more than happy to set you straight. In a largely unfunny series of credits bloopers, Jessica Biel's character gives birth to twins, and she couldn't be happier to have "Valentine's Day" pop out of her vagina in both DVD and Blu-ray formats (on sale now!). We're not naive enough to imagine that studio films are purely about artistry (and not cynical enough to think that it's never present), but we wish those behind "New Year's Eve" had at least pretended they were trying to entertain us while they rummage through our pockets for loose change.

Our favorite movie of all time -- one that we've even puzzled ourselves with our repeat reportage of -- is Garry Marshall's "New Year's Eve." Or it will be when it eventually comes out.

We can't remember the last movie where each casting announcement made us dread a movie more and more. But Garry Marshall seems determined to stack his forthcoming holiday-themed romcom "New Year's Eve" with whichever Hollywood talent has a spot in their calendar and isn't opposed to taking an easy paycheck.

We're not sure what the appeal is here -- an easy paycheck for about five minutes of working or getting to rub elbows with a bunch of fellow celebs in a breezy romcom -- but it appears everyone in Hollywood is jumping out of windows to work on Garry Marshall's "New Year's Eve."

Sienna Miller has had an interesting, if not entirely satisfying, career so far. Having been dismissed by many as yet another model-turned-actress after early roles in "Alfie" and "Layer Cake," she proved to be a far more interesting proposition, with an excellent performance in a terrible film, "Factory Girl." She's since proved that wasn't a fluke, with strong work on stage in "As You Like It" and "After Miss Julie," and two very good performances in Steve Buscemi's "Interview" and John Maybury's "The Edge Of Love", stealing the show from Keira Knightley in the latter.

You've got hand it to Garry Marshall, or at least the agents surrounding this project, the director knows how to corral an ensemble comedy. Following on the heels of "Valentine's Day" which included Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Patrick Dempsey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Topher Grace, Queen Latifah, Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner and more, Marshall has scored another name brand cast for his follow-up project and spiritual sequel/re-do in another holiday setting, "New Year's Eve."

Sometimes, a major actor does a shit film willingly. There are several reasons, but the most popular is that it's a nice paycheck combined with a very limited shooting schedule. This has fueled the massive ensemble casts for a string of dreadful romantic comedies in the last few years, including "He's Just Not That Into You" and "Valentine's Day." Audiences go based on the commercials, having no idea that their favorite actor has only five minutes of screen time, and worse, they are somehow forced to share it with George Lopez.

Pic Is A Spin-Off Of Marshall's Successful 'Valentine's Day' Romantic DramedyAfter somehow scoring half the talent in Hollywood -- Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift, etc (Julia Roberts was paid $5 million for five minutes of screentime) -- for his tepid and mawkish ensemble film, "Valentine's Day," director Garry Marshall is gearing up to amass another sizable cast for the film's spiritual sequel, "New Year's Eve."
