Despite a whole fourteen years passing since his last directorial effort "Nil By Mouth," starring Ray Winstone and Kathy Burke among others (a furiously brutal portrait of alcoholism, family and abuse, and an outstanding film), it looks like renowned thespian Gary Oldman is now planning another turn behind the camera, with one particularly high-calibered British talent already in his sights.

Author John Le Carre & Cast Discuss The AdaptationWith the breathtaking trailer and poster combo recently unveiled, our excitement for Tomas Alfredson's adaptation of John Le Carre's "Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy" is sky high at the moment. Adding to that is the expectation that the film will pop up in one, or both, of the line ups for the Venice (having been invited to open) and Toronto International Film Festivals when they're announced in the coming weeks.

Every time we have to see something like "The Smurfs" or "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie" we get through it (other than by self-medicating) by remembering that it's only a few months before "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" hits theaters. The English-language debut of "Let The Right One In" director Tomas Alfredson, and the first big-screen version of the John le Carré spy novel already memorably adapted for television in the 1970s, the film's long been one of our most anticipated, considering its impeccably-pedigreed cast, and the teaser trailer that landed a few weeks back did absolutely nothing to change that, being one of the most mouth-watering clips we've seen in some time.

Wow. Maybe it's just the way our brains are wired, but we just saw more fireworks from 70-odd seconds of middle-aged British character actors than we got across two-and-a-half-hours of empty spectacle in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." The Guardian just debuted the first international teaser trailer for one of our most anticipated films of the rest of the year, Working Title's adaptation of John Le Carre's spy classic "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," the English-language debut of "Let The Right One In" director Tomas Alfredson, and it's easily one of the best trailers we've seen in an age.

Will this be the year the Academy finally gives Gary Oldman his due? It seems that those anticipating Tomas Alfredson's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" think that this could be the film that finally sees the actor holding the Oscar gold. And even if it isn't, with a fantastic cast in place and some great source material to work with, this promises to be one of the highlights of the fall movie season.

Well, we're out of the winter and spring blahs as the summer movie season is now in full swing, with the fall festival and awards season right around the corner and one of the most anticipated films is Tomas Alfredson‘s “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.” The director's followup to "Let The Right One In" finds him working with a top shelf cast -- Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong, Svetlana Khodchenko, Toby Jones, John Hurt, Stephen Graham and Kathy Burke -- in an adaptation of John Le Carre‘s classic spy thriller that follows a British Intelligence operative whose task is to delve into the world of Cold War espionage and root out a Soviet mole in the Circus, the highest echelon in the British Intelligence Services.

Cannes is one of the biggest markets, if not the biggest, for acquisitions in the film calendar, with hundreds of deals made, ranging from pre-sales for star-laden properties to distribution rights to terrible B-movies. This year, as with the unusually busy Sundance, has already been packed with deals, happily suggesting something of a renaissance in the independent film world. On top of the news that landed over the weekend that Rian Johnson's "Looper" heads up a pack of high-profile buys also including "Playing the Field," "Arabian Nights" and "The Iron Lady," another of our most anticipated films of the moment looks to have landed an American distributor.

As you might recall, the plot for "Inception" leaked almost a whole year before it hit theaters. And while most sites keep that on the down low, as much for their own benefit of not spoiling the movie for themselves as anything else, Christopher Nolan is doing his best this time around to make sure that nonsense doesn't happen again.

Neil Marshall No Longer Attached To DirectDoes "The Professionals" sound familiar? It might. Last spring, the project first cropped up with Neil Marshall set to direct but since then, word on the project has been quiet. But today, there is fresh life and some big, big names being tossed around as potential leads.

Gary Oldman has been doing the press rounds for "Red Riding Hood" and naturally, he's been grilled about "The Dark Knight Rises," but the veteran actor has been playing it cool and not spilling too many details on Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated and secretive sequel. What we do know is that Tom Hardy will be playing Bane and Anne Hathaway will be taking on Catwoman, though current rumors suggest she will be an ally instead of a foe. And now Oldman has hinted that another villain in the movie will be ripped from the classic pages of the comics.
