So, a couple weeks back, you may have been delighted (or horrified) by the news that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were eyeing the director's chair for the forever developing "Ghostbusters 3." On the one the hand, these are the guys have turned out critically acclaimed smash hits "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs," "21 Jump Street" and "The Lego Movie." On the other hand, they can do so much better than trying revive this wheezing, forever developing sequel. And thankfully they've bailed.

Phil Lord Chris Miller Elizabeth Banks The Lego Movie
In an industry hellbent on rebooting, remaking, spinning off and repackaging toys, comic books, TV shows and more, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the rare example of guys who make whatever they touch fresh, creative and hugely entertaining. On paper, it was hard to see what "21 Jump Street" could become, but in execution Lord and Miller created a ludicrously hilarious buddy movie. And in "The Lego Movie," the pair used the framework of a toy movie for a subversive, wildly inventive adventure infused with pure imagination. And everything they've touched (including "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs") has been a smash at the box office. So, who ya gonna call for "Ghostbusters 3"?

Ghostbusters 2 Ivan Reitman
We've been here before. At one time rumored for a May 2011 start and then summer 2013, the long developing "Ghostbusters 3" has had a lot of plans that have yet to come to fruition. So, you might be well advised to take this next update with a grain of salt.

Ghostbusters 2
t's barely been 24 hours since Harold Ramis sadly passed away, but Hollywood business doesn't wait, and that means Sony is trying to figure out what to do with their forever-developing "Ghostbusters 3." The project (which has been haunted by Dan Aykroyd continually talking about the movies) is still being worked on, but seems a long way away from anything resembling a green light. And with Ramis passing, some tweaks will obviously have to be made.

After months of Dan Aykroyd sifting around in the empty “Ghostbusters” sandbox, promising every and any random person of an eventually awesome third installment, finally some word from another cast member has arrived. Rick Moranis, who left the acting spotlight to raise his family and start a music career, is back with a new album, and during its promotion gave a brief update on the sequel's ever-diminishing chances of actually happening.

Earlier today, original "Ghostbusters" cast member (and co-writer) Dan Aykroyd revealed some details about the proposed "Ghostbusters 3." The project is a thing that, not unlike ghosts, ghouls, and specters, has yet to produce concrete evidence backing up the fact that it actually exists (or ever will). Aykroyd talked about story details, and confirmed that, yes, it is unlikely that Bill Murray will be a part of the new project. Still missing: cast details, a release date, and confirmation that this isn't an elaborate figment of Aykroyd's imagination brought on by drinking too much Crystal Head vodka.

Oh god, no. I mean, interesting news on the "Ghostbusters 3" front today. Dan Aykroyd, the self-appointed "cheerleader" of the "Ghostbusters" had a long sit down with Esquire and of course they delved into a long conversation about "Ghostbusters 3." The script appears to be done. It appears to be as "ready" as it's ever been (lord, when have we heard that one before). It's apparently the script everyone wants to make and Aykroyd even talks about potential 4th and 5th "Ghostbusters" films. Have mercy.

Well, that was fast. Just a brief hint of an idea earlier today, the Tom Cruise sci-fi vehicle "Our Name Is Adam" is already earning big time attention from a studio that has been putting some big faith in the actor. Meanwhile, another project looks like it's being given its walking papers.

“We have a way of doing it,” director Ivan Reitman insisted in January 2011 about a compelling way to make a third "Ghostbusters" film. “I wasn’t going to do it until we found out [what that way was], and it is a generational story, actually – it’s effectively a generational story and it’s very well written. We’ll see if it actually gets made. It’s a scary thing to think about for me, because I’m fucking with my past, but at the same time, I don’t just want to chicken out on the challenge. But it’s a great story and great characters.”
