Franchises rule the roost in Hollywood these days, so here's a couple updates on some comics that are now winding their way to the big screen and may become a new tentpole in a theater near you.

Already the subject of Stanley Kubrick's 1960 film, the 2004 USA Network made-for-TV movie starring Goran Višnjić and the backdrop for Starz bloody and sexed up "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and "Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena" it seems that GK Films feel that tale of Spartacus still needs to be told.

It's strange to think that Gore Verbinski, an accomplished visual stylist who began in commercials (he was responsible for those "Bud-weis-er" talking bullfrog ads), would want to follow up the daunting and problem-plagued back-to-back shoots of the two latter 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies with an animated film. Not only are animated films notoriously time-consuming and hard to crack, but this would be his first fully animated film and the debut feature film from Industrial Light & Magic, George Lucas' wizardly visual effects house. And this was supposed to be his "small" movie.

Angelina Jolie Has Filmed Scenes In Both English & Bosnian Language VersionsWhile it hasn't been without its share of controversies, filming continues on Angelina Jolie's directorial debut, a currently untitled romantic drama, set during the Bosnian War, and following a love story between a Muslim woman and a Serbian man. As you might expect, the film has generated a lot of attention in the region given the subject matter and Jolie recently pulled back the shooting schedule in Bosnia due to political concerns.
