"Godzilla" is happening, and likely realizing just how important (and potentially lucrative) this franchise is, Legendary and Warner Bros. are making sure everything is done to ensure the best movie possible. While Comic-Con attendees got a memorable teaser this summer, the unveiling was also likely a testing ground of sorts, and you can bet that if response was muted, the studio wouldn't have booked a 2014 release. The wheels are firmly in motion for "Monsters" director Gareth Edwards' first stab at the blockbuster pie, but before casting begins, the script will get one last, tiny polish.

But even after Guillermo del Toro's glimpse of "Pacific Rim" (look for our reactions to that soon) caused nerd palpitations in Hall H, "Godzilla" was able to raise the game.

So, just how happy is Legendary Pictures with writer David S. Goyer? The man has had a pen in all three of Christopher Nolan's Batman films and he's putting his stamp on Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel." In short, he's been behind some of their most successful projects and is readying a couple of their most highly anticipated releases, and they hope he can weave more magic on another franchise -- "Godzilla."
