Joel Kinnaman
Just like the start of the past few years, we wonder if in the months ahead we'll see the latest from Terrence Malick, who is currently sitting on two films; an untitled Austin music scene set movie, and "Knight Of Cups." Will they screen at Cannes or perhaps be split up and hit a couple of different festivals? Your guess is as good as ours, though Malick's protege A.J. Edwards—the director behind the very Malick-y "The Better Angels," which the reclusive filmmaker put his name on as producer—seems to think they will indeed arrive sometime in 2014.

The Better Angels
It may look, sound and feel like a Terrence Malick film, but aside from a producer credit, the upcoming "The Better Angels" is actually the work of editor and second unit director-turned-writer/director A.J. Edwards. But certainly, after logging time on "The New World," "The Tree of Life" and "To the Wonder," he's learned a few things about Malick's approach and has put them to use.

The Better Angels
Working closely under the tutelage of Terrence Malick for several years now, editor and second-unit director turned writer/director A.J. Edwards (who has worked on "The New World," "The Tree of Life" and "To the Wonder"), might have been better advised to get out from under the shadow of his mentor for his feature-length debut, “The Better Angels,” which is content to bask adoringly under the silhouette of his teacher. Perhaps intended as loving homage, the film instead borders deeply on self-serious parody, practically utilizing a checklist of every stylistic trope Edwards’ cinematic guru uses – hushed ponderous voiceovers about the nature of life; a gliding camera; intrusive, dancing wide-angle shots; jump cuts; dancing in fields – and one by one employing them all without a trace of ironic self-awareness.

The Better Angels
While Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" showed us the president as an already great man striving to do good in a country divided by war and race, the forthcoming Sundance drama "The Better Angels" will look at the events that turned him into one of the most iconic leaders in American history. And under the guidance of producer Terrence Malick, it's sure to be something very special.

The Better Angels
Oh, the irony. While Terrence Malick's two in-the-works features are some of our Most Anticipated Films Of 2014, it's actually a movie he produced, "The Better Angels," that will be coming first. And by the looks of the first footage, even though he didn't direct it, he might as well have.

Knight Of Cups Hanan Townshend
Terrence Malick has let many collaborators into his secretive, creative lair but only a select few have become regulars. But it looks like Hanan Townshend will join folks like production designer Jack Fisk, editor Billy Weber and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki as one of the lucky few.

While it may not bear a Directed By credit, the upcoming "Green Blade Rises" seems to be putting together a lot of ingredients familiar to producer Terrence Malick. The project will be directed by A.J. Edwards, a protegé of the filmmaker who was an editor on "To The Wonder" and served various roles on "The New World" and "The Tree Of Life." Moreover, it features Wes Bentley and Jason Clarke (along with Diane Kruger and Brit Marling), who both appear (or at least shave shot scenes) for Malick's "Knight Of Cups." And now a composer who will be familiar to Malick fans has come aboard.

It seems the Terrence Malick news train just can't be stopped today. Following reports that "Badlands" is headed to The Criterion Collection and "To The Wonder" has finally been picked up for U.S. distribution by Magnolia, now a movie that the very busy auteur is producing has added two very notable names to the cast.
