Guardians Of The Galaxy
The Marvel-verse continues to expand and all you can do is get out of the way. And while Marvel has their next batch of movies planned through 2019, their current baby is this week's "Guardians Of The Galaxy" (our review). A sequel is already set for 2017, and it looks like they are feeling confident enough audiences will want even more, a small screen version of the heroes is in the works.

Marvel, Comic-Con 2014
It’s Marvel’s world and the rest of us are just living in it— at least when it comes to Comic-Con. The superhero studio juggernaut hasn't even presented anything yet (not til Saturday), but they’ve dominated the buzz and conversation down at the marketing tradeshow that is San-Diego Comic-Con. Firstly, they announced a sixth release date last night now that “Amazing Spider-Man 4” is no longer slotted for May 2018 (Marvel scooped up the empty date immediately). Then they’re garnering rave reviews for “Guardians of The Galaxy,” and they’re stealing a lot of thunder with just teaser posters for “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” and “Ant-Man.” Suffice it to say if anyone wants to unseat Marvel as the kings of Comic-Con this year, they’re going to have to start working harder.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
Now, they’re all over t-shirts and lunchboxes, but back in 2008 when Marvel Studios were kicking off as their own self-producing entity, their characters weren’t all that well known. Captain America was probably the most familiar (along with the Hulk), but Iron Man and Thor and Nick Fury and co. were, while obviously known and loved by comic fans, pretty unrecognizable to general audiences, who knew more immediately iconic characters like Batman, Superman and Spider-Man, far better. Now, the roster of The Avengers are all household names, but with Spidey, X-Men and the Fantastic Four still under the clutches of other studios, and contracts on the original actors running out, Marvel are being forced to turn to some of their more obscure properties.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
When Marvel announced that "Slither" and "Super" director James Gunn would direct "Guardians Of The Galaxy," it was a surprising choice. Gunn was a filmmaker who preferred to deconstruct genres rather than play into the usual tropes, but it turns out that was exactly the kid of spirit Kevin Feige wants for the space adventure.

Guardians Of The Galaxy, James Gunn
Last year, Latino-Review reported that the "Planet Hulk" comic book storyline would soon be stomping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (In the comic book, the Hulk is banished from Earth and winds up on a fearsome world, following a "Conan"-style trajectory from gladiatorial warrior to ruler of the planet.) The rumors were debunked, but late last month, Hitfix teased a potential "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel that would also feature "Planet Hulk"-style story elements (head to that site for the full, potentially spoilery details). Well, we recently spoke to "Guardians of the Galaxy" writer/director James Gunn, and he set the record straight on both counts.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
What are you doing next Monday night? Well, Marvel hopes you'll be watching "Jimmy Kimmel Live" where Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper will all be on hand to push "Guardians Of The Galaxy," which has its world premiere and will start screening for critics next week. And it's part of the studio's push on the public at large as well, hoping to acquaint them with these characters and get a sense of who they are before they buy a ticket next month. And so that means more epic marketing is on hand.

Peyton Reed, Ant-Man
It's now a year until "Ant-Man" rolls into theatres nationwide, and so begins Marvel's long campaign of winning over fanboys still not pleased that Edgar Wright, who had been with the project for years, was forced to bow out after creative clashes with the studio. And that's not all, as Marvel will also have to convince the die hard faithful that Peyton Reed, primarily known for comedies like "Bring It On" and "Yes Man," is the right guy to sit in the saddle and see the movie through. Well, there has been no better advocate and visionary for Marvel movies than Kevin Feige, and he's pumped about the Reed and what that means for "Ant-Man."

Guardians Of The Galaxy
It’s interesting how a career can evolve so quickly. There’s been fan chatter on the Internet calling for Chris Pratt to play the new Indiana Jones, but things were very different for the actor a few years ago.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
Is Marvel blowing their load on "Guardians Of The Galaxy" too early? This evening, fans everywhere lined up to see 17 minutes of footage from the film in IMAX, and judging by the reactions on Twitter, it was spectacular stuff. Latino Review gushed, "If the question with this movie has always been: will people who liked 'The Avengers' buy in? That's no longer a question for me." But let's face it. It was was the diehard fans who snapped up those IMAX tickets for the showing in 150 select theatres so it's hard to know if the buzz from this far out will even have an impact on the general public next month. Well, the studio is doubling down.
