So, "Man of Steel" flies into theaters with advance screenings tonight if you got your Walmart-branded tickets, so we can get back to talking about the Marvel universe, right? While Warner Bros. is getting their sea legs with their DC Comics properties, hoping Superman can lead them to a bright franchise future, Marvel is multiple movies and billions of dollars ahead, with much, much more to come. While WB figures out how to get their first team-up movie sorted out with "Justice League," Marvel has already knocked out "The Avengers" and has "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "The Avengers 2" on the way. Mega-world-building!? Not so fast.

Casting for “The Guardians of the Galaxy” continues to shape up with Benicio del Toro being the latest addition to the gang. He’ll be joining Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, John C. Reilly, Enzo Cilenti, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, and Glenn Close. Pretty impressive so far, no? The addition of del Toro to the mix remains the most intriguing, especially with recent news that he’s signed a deal for multiple movies and he’s expected to be featured in more films within the Marvel universe down the line. So, who is he playing?

While the DC comic book universes have remained largely standalone thus far, and only the most tentative of hints dropped during the recent “Man of Steel” junket, Marvel has clicked into overdrive with the notion, tapping franchise upon franchise to have their turn. But naturally, more characters means more actors, and now two of the upcoming Phase 2 films have found a few new additions.

We mean this mostly as a compliment, but the cast of Marvel's ambitious space flick "Guardians Of The Galaxy" is starting to feel like it was assembled almost at random. So far, we have a rising comic star whose proven equally adept at dramatic fare on the big screen (Chris Pratt, as Peter Quill/Star-Lord), an actress who's already a veteran of two massive space franchises (Zoe Saldana, as green-skinned warrior Gamora), a long-time genre heavy (Michael Rooker, as villain Yondu), a wrestler (Dave Bautista, as Drax), an ever-rising young star (Lee Pace, as a bad guy who'll apparently switch sides), a British actress whose name makes Benedict Cumberbatch's seem down-to-earth (Ophelia Lovibond, as an unknown character) and a beloved character actor (John C. Reilly).

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is over a year away from its planned release date and filming is set to get underway very soon. So far, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond and Lee Pace are all planned to appear in the Marvel film, but it’s this latest piece of casting information that has really perked our interest. Marvel has apparently made an offer for John C. Reilly to play the part of Rhomann Dey, a character that has been described as being the Agent Coulson of the 'Guardians' world. His character would be serving as the “go-between,” keeping the Guardians in line while reporting their activities back to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Like a leaky nerd faucet, Marvel keeps the information flowing, albeit in servings that would strain to be called child's size. And yet, here we are, because the Marvel-verse is one of the most interesting gambles in recent memory at the movies that is only growing bigger and more successful with each passing year (leading up to a whopper of a 2015 for Disney). But before we get ahead of ourselves and talk Phase Three, there is still lots to come with Phase Two, starting with "Iron Man 3," which opens tomorrow, and EW sat down with Kevin Feige and grilled him on all things Marvel.

We've already commented on the sorta variety pack casting of Marvel's "Guardians Of The Galaxy," and when the movie comes out, no matter who is in it, you're either going to be down with talking raccoons in space or not. But if you are, then the villain role has landed a pretty good dude to take it on.

So what do Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker and now Ophelia Lovibond have in common? Believe it or not, this grab-bag, eclectic batch of actors constitute the cast of a movie which is shaping up to be a pretty interesting little gamble on behalf of Marvel.

Perhaps rivaling "Godzilla" for having the most random cast for an upcoming tentpole movie, "Guardians Of The Galaxy" continues to assemble an unlikely group of players, now rounding up an actor who has found some career revitalization thanks to "The Walking Dead."

In case there was any doubt that a movie featuring an action hero raccoon could be made, Marvel's Phase Two is in full swing, with a whole bunch of early material hitting arriving this week. And the superhero studio isn't wasting any time moving on, as they continue to cast up "Guardians Of The Galaxy" adding once actress who knows her way around the solar system already.
