Let’s see, the new Coen brothers movie “Hail Caesar” has George Clooney, Josh Brolin Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes in it. Ok, sold already, but in case you need convincing (because you’re crazy), one more Coen Brothers alum is rejoining the fold: Scarlett Johansson, who co-starred in the siblings’ 2001 eerie existentialist drama “The Man Who Wasn’t There,” is joining the cast.

Hail Caesar Cast, Coen Brothers
So maybe let's start this with a hat tip to Channing Tatum and how far he's come. From that guy in the "Step Up" movie, the actor made steady moves to work with directors of note, taking roles in films by Kimberly Peirce ("Stop-Loss"), Michael Mann ("Public Enemies"), Ron Howard ("The Dilemma"), Kevin Macdonald ("The Eagle"), Steven Soderbergh ("Haywire," "Side Effects," "Magic Mike") and Bennett Miller ("Foxcatcher") and that's not to mention becoming the star of franchises like "G.I. Joe" and "21 Jump Street." And so, don't be surprised that the Coens have tapped the actor for their next film.

By this point in the careers of the Coen brothers, they have an embarrassment of past talent to draw upon for the next films. And for their upcoming "Hail Caesar," they've tapped two leading men who have been part of some of their most successful films to date.

“Don’t be surprised when [Rodger Deakins] or [Nicolas Bolduc] pops up for one of these upcoming projects,” we wrote in April. Of course we were talking about Denis Villeneuve and his two upcoming films, the crime film “Sicario” starring Emily Blunt and the sci-fi film “The Story Of Your Life” starring Amy Adams (the latter, a project Paramount bought the rights for recently at Cannes for a record $20 million).

The Coen Brothers, Inside Llewyn Davis
The Coen Brothers themselves have been planting the seeds of "Hail Caesar" for a while now, teasing last fall that this would be next. First conceived years ago, in what would've been part of their loose knit “Numbskull Trilogy” following “O Brother Where Art Thou?” and “Intolerable Cruelty," "Hail Caesar" was initially about a 1920s matinee film idol who takes on an Ancient Rome epic. But it seems that the sibling duo have upgraded the setting and the focus, as they gear up to finally make this one their next film.

The benefit of having a career as diverse as the Coen Brothers is that no genre or idea seems outside the realm of possibility for them—if you told us they shot second unit on “Jupiter Ascending” there might be a moment of consideration before dismissing the idea. But a number of potential projects have trickled into press rounds surrounding their excellent new film “Inside Llewyn Davis," and now it seems they may landed for certain on their next venture.
