Remember way, way back in 2009 when Halle Berry signed on to make a shark attack movie called "Dark Tide"? No? Well, we didn't remember either but not only is it in the can, there is now a trailer (two years later which always spells the mark of a hit film, right?)

In case you haven't heard, television is where it's at these days in terms of diverse, ambitious and complex material and we don't need to run down the myriad of stars and shows that have gravitated to the small screen format (in fact, we did a feature about it which you can read right here if you want to know where to start). So no big surprise that another big star is looking to go serial.

Actors Will Play Multiple Roles In ProjectTo date, The Wachowskis have never quite lived up to their promise. After a strong debut with lesbian noir "Bound," they reinvented the action movie with "The Matrix," a film as seriously influential as any since "Star Wars" -- hence the slavish copycats that have clogged up sci-fi pictures in the last 10 years. But the sequels were bloated and near-unwatchable, failing to understand what made the first film special, while their only other directorial credit since -- "Speed Racer" -- gave us a giant headache, even if we can sort of understand those who defend it as a piece of pop art.

Our favorite movie of all time -- one that we've even puzzled ourselves with our repeat reportage of -- is Garry Marshall's "New Year's Eve." Or it will be when it eventually comes out.

Recently, Badass Digest reported that Halle Berry will be starring in "The Student" for Dutch director Paul Verhoeven known for "Showgirls," "Starship Troppers" and the excellent, late-career redeeming "Black Book" in 2006. The problem: This is news to everyone in both camps. Reps for Halle Berry, her CAA agents and Relativity Media, the studio behind this picture, call this story a "fantastic idea, but sadly it isn't true." Reps for Verhoeven also say this is untrue, his management goes so far as to say it's, "totally inaccurate."

You've got hand it to Garry Marshall, or at least the agents surrounding this project, the director knows how to corral an ensemble comedy. Following on the heels of "Valentine's Day" which included Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Patrick Dempsey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Topher Grace, Queen Latifah, Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner and more, Marshall has scored another name brand cast for his follow-up project and spiritual sequel/re-do in another holiday setting, "New Year's Eve."

Sending a signal to Oscar prognosticators, the fake-intellectuals who mock "Iron Man" and masturbate to "The King's Speech," a phalanx of critics organizations revealed their top honors this weekend, drawing a line in the sand. Their message? "The Social Network" is on one side of that line, and all other movies are on the other. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the New York Film Critics Online and the Boston Society Of Film Critics selected the David Fincher drama as the year's best film, while the AFI listed the film as one of the year's (unranked) 10 best.
