The process of casting a high-profile, much sought-after role in a major would-be franchise is a complex one, with the advent of movie blogs such as ourselves. Every stage of the process is now as public as it could be, save some kind of weekly reality show documenting it, and it has the side effect of making the casting process seem endless. It's only six weeks or so since rumors of any kind started flying around regarding Gary Ross' adaptation of immensely popular young adult novel trilogy "The Hunger Games," but it's dominated the news to the extent that we're nothing but delighted that a decision's finally been made on the casting of Katniss, the central role.

For a film that had barely entered our consciousness at the start of this year, it's impressive the extent to which "The Hunger Games" has come to dominate the news cycle in recent weeks. While we were aware that the trilogy of books by Suzanne Collins were popular, we weren't quite sure of the extent of that popularity until the casting rumors started to fly, and the books' fervent fan base came out in force. What's more, unlike the miserable "Twilight" series, we've been ensured by Playlist team members that the books are, actually, a cracking read, and should make good source material for big-screen adventures.

Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin & Emily Browning Among The Final ContendersIn what is shaping up to be the hottest role for a young actress in Hollywood since David Fincher's search for Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," the hunt for Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games" continues but it's looking more and more likely that a name long linked to the role, will be signing on the dotted line.

The hottest project around town for young actresses appears to be "The Hunger Games." The franchise ready film has already seen a number of names circling the lead role of Katniss Everdeen including Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Jennifer Lawrence, Chloe Moretz, Lyndsy Fonseca, Emma Roberts, Saoirse Ronan, Kaya Scodelario, Emily Browning and Shailene Woodley; and that's just the ones we know of as thirty actresses have met or read for the part. However, there is also a male lead part, Peeta Mellark, the love interest of sorts for Katniss and fellow District 12 resident. And naturally, a rising young name has been linked.

Jennifer Lawrence Is Not A Frontrunner For The RoleLess than 24 hours after Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Jennifer Lawrence emerged as contenders for the highly touted role of Katniss Everdeen in the gestating "Hunger Games," some more, pretty obvious names emerged. Talent that would be on any director or casting agent's wishlist for a role that needs a young female lead.

We're getting older, and we're no longer afraid to admit that. However, it does come with certain disadvantages. Our ears have aged to that point that we're now unable to hear Justin Bieber's voice, for instance. We were offered a role in a Neal Moritz-produced remake of "Cocoon" the other day. And, perhaps most importantly for this profession, we can no longer distinguish the various young-adult-novel properties that are vying to replace "Twilight" as the teen-franchise-du-jour.
