Ice Cube, Paul Walker
Dude, it’s the MTV Movie Awards, what is there to get upset about? It’s about 1,000 rungs below the Oscars, so nothing to freak about if you don't win. But in case you missed it, this is what Ice Cube had to say about his comedy “Ride Along” not winning the Best Duo Award at Sunday’s prestigious MTV Movie Awards.

22 Jump Street
We started the day with "22 Jump Street," so we might as well end it there too. Earlier, we got the first clip and a bunch of new images for the movie, and now just as we're about to go to bed, Sony has dropped the final, three-minute red band trailer for the movie. And yes, it looks really good.

Barbershop
While the financial success of “Ride Along” proved that comedian Kevin Hart can be a box office draw, it also seems to have provided a little boost towards Ice Cube’s career. MGM Studios have just announced that they will re-open the “Barbershop” for a third time with Cube signing on to reprise his role as Calvin Palmer in "Barbershop 3." This announcement comes ten years after “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” was released and the studio hopes Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah will also return to the franchise.

Ride Along
Universal put the wheels in motion for this one last spring, so it wasn't a matter of if, but when. And indeed, with "Ride Along" crossing $120 million this past weekend—while Kevin Hart's other comedy "About Last Night" opened strongly with over $27 million dollars in the bank—it's a not shock that Universal want to stay in business with the comic actor. So why not make a sequel to the hit "Ride Along"?

Ride Along
Say this for “Ride Along,” this Friday’s big action buddy comedy: the two leads are black and its villains are a mixture of black, white and Hispanic. At no point during the film does it ever feel like tokenism or pandering, just an attempt, finally, at recreating an honest, plausible cultural makeup. The story takes place in a relatively generic Atlanta, but the streets have a bit of an edge to them: when one character insults another by guessing they’re from Decatur, there’s no attempt to explain the putdown to the non-locals in the audience, only attitude.

Ride Along
As we look back on 2013's winners and losers, one to remember is Kevin Hart, whose stand-up-flick-with-a-bit-of-fiction-mixed-in “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” was a critical hit that became the 4th most successful stand-up film ever (he also starred in “Grudge Match," but never mind). Hart is kicking off 2014, meanwhile, with “Ride Along,” a cop comedy about a high-school security guard (Hart) being taken on a ride along by his prospective brother-in-law, who is an actual cop, played by everyone's favorite not-actual cop, Ice Cube. Cube's aim, of course, is to see if Hart is a good enough guy to marry his sister (Tika Sumpter), but the ride along turns out to be more testing than he really intends.

If you needed more proof that The Playlist loves both high and "low" art, here you go, as we're pretty stoked not just to see which awards season movies get the ultimate honor, but also to witness Ice Cube and Kevin Hart go at it for two hours. 22 Jump Street
Ordinarily, we're wary of sequels especially for comedies (we love you Will Ferrell, but "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" has a huge bar to hit), but we'll say this: the first red band trailer for "22 Jump Street" made us laugh. A lot.

While we might come off as Snooty McHighFaultinPants from time-to-time, the truth is we here at The Playlist love (well done) dumb fun as much as the next person. And it's safe to say, we're totally going to watch the shit out of "Ride Along."

With "The Heat" proving this past weekend that a fresh spin on an old formula can bring out audiences in droves, Universal will be hoping they can work the same magic next year with "Ride Along." Yes, it's another buddy cop movie that once again finds an interesting tweak to give everyone involved a new entry into the genre.
