With all the serious Oscar movies followed by a month of limp offerings at the box office, we can undertand if you need a good laugh. And the first major comedy of 2013 (sorry, the terrible "A Haunted House" and "Movie 43" don't count) arrives with "Identity Thief." The Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman comedy will be aiming straight for your funny bone, but will also have some ass-shaking tunes on the soundtrack.

As months on the movie calendar go, February is one of the quieter ones. It doesn't have the Oscar leftovers, or sheer terribleness of January, meanwhile, the hopeful blockbusters of the spring and summer still seem far, far away. But that doesn't mean that there's nothing worth seeing.

As folks will soon see during the end credits of "This Is 40," Melissa McCarthy is an improv machine. “I've seen people in tears before, but that was something otherworldly. People were leaving the room -- crew had to leave. It was impossible, and she just kept her composure through all of it,” Paul Rudd said about working with her on Judd Apatow's film, with the director adding, quite simply: "...Melissa is one of the best improvisers there is." And hopefully Seth Gordon knew enough to let her go off script, but even if not, the new trailer for "Identity Thief" does have some promise.

It’s been a hell of a year for “Bridesmaids” breakout star Melissa McCarthy -- she landed an Oscar nod for the Kristen Wiig-penned comedy and an Emmy for your parents’ favorite CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly” -- and she’s set to lead her first film with Jason Bateman in “Identity Thief.” With a dearth of comedies in the next few months, Universal has already started the ball rolling for comedy with two character one-sheets hitting the web yesterday.

We don't do the standalone synopsis thing too often, but given that thus far details have been hazy on both these upcoming comedy and action pics from Universal, we figured they warranted a bit of attention.

So, if Universal initially moving "47 Ronin" from November 21st to February 8, 2013 was a sign that they lacked faith in the flick, is this next manuever an indication they now, in fact, have big plans for it? You don't hand out holiday dates to just anything, and the studio has now moved the Keanu Reeves-led film to Christmas Day 2013.

Seth Gordon’s latest directorial effort, with “Horrible Bosses” cohort Jason Bateman and “Bridesmaids” scene-stealer Melissa McCarthy in the leads, has steadily been coming together in recent months. And now set to hit next summer, it seems as if “Identity Theft” will start rolling any day now.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. With "Bridesmaids" arriving in theaters on May 13th last year and becoming one of the biggest comedies of 2011, and suprisingly, an awards season player, Universal isn't rocking the boat with the next big Melissa McCarthy comedy.
